Mobile Speed Camera's - probably the most useless invention, if you can call it that, on Earth.

Coming to a known mobile camera spot, about 10 cars violently flashed their headlights waving their arms about like complete retards even though I was doing legal limit, just to let me know that there were some police and very old pensioners armed with a laser gun. Very nice of the car drivers.

Next point, how can 80 year old men and women be trusted with these cameras? I swear the one I rode by was pointing the gun at the cows on the field to the left of me.

I'm glad that there are drivers who are prepared to warn other road users about speed traps. Luckily I was warned about one last week (A217 Reigate Hill) by a couple of cars flashing me and just managed to get my speed down to something reasonable. I still got a tug, they were just finishing with another biker (hope you got off mate) and there was only one copper in view, the other one was in the car.

He started with all the chat, 'do you know what the limit was, do you know how fast you were going' , I could tell that something wasn't right as he didn't offer to tell me how fast I was going. I did the yes sir, no sir bit (a bit annoying as he was at least half my age), and said I wasn't sure about my speed as it was a farily new bike. Finally after a lot more chat I was offered a choice, 3 points £60 fine (no way I thought - I'm going to ask to see the evidence), or 'undertake a brief road safety instruction and be shown pictures of miotorcycle accidents' - YES PLEASE!

The pictures were not exactly stomach churning (unlike some I've seen in the past), just a couple of smashed bikes. I was happy to ride away without any points though mainly thanks to the other drivers who warned me, although I'm sure they hadn't actually clocked me with the radar gun.

We recently got some old folk given a cam in a small town down the road (styal if anyone's local.. watch out) there was an article in the paper about them, front page too as not a lot else happens around here lol. The details were that they take the speeds down and if there is a recurrence of between 3 and 5 of the same car then the details CAN be passed to the police and then the police MAY send a ticket but for the most part they are just logged, I assume if your then spotted by a cop then it's more likely your will be ticketed rather than a verbal.

I think most people do slow down for them though. This may be different with other old folk and their toys. Least it gives them a purpose in there lives rather than being on the roads doing 20mph in a 60 zone LOL or complaining about young folk that had more respect when they were a lad !
