I've got a dodgy side stand switch and it kept cutting the engine whenever I tried to engage 1st and let the clutch out (as it should), but when the stand was up Thumbs Down .

I disconnected the wire, yet it still keeps on doing it. I refitted the connection, gave the piston a damn good wiggle with a screwdriver and it seems to have worked.

Any reasons why a disconnected switch would still cut the engine Thinking

Try taking them off the switch and joining them together and see if the situation changes.

Because its a break switch, it breaks the circuit when pressed. Like Mick said just join the two wires together.
