School holidays

Enough said...

My kid finished today for 6 weeks break.

5 minutes ago (8.21pm to be exact) I got the famous phrase
"I'm borrrrrrred"! Shocked
Erm...DO something then !
"Nothing to do"
Go to bed... that's something to do
"ERR.. it is the SUMMER HOLIDAYS ! I can stay up late. Duh"

Short of smacking her, I am sat here waiting for the schools to start back Shocked
Where are you September !?? Surprised

In MY day, (old fart), we played in the sun, rode bikes, card games, blah blah..
there were no xbox's. playstation 2's, sky tv, electronic fangle-dangles..
and we weren't bored
Or maybe we were ??!! Shocked Wink

Am I getting old ?
Yus,

OH, it's my birthday on Sunday

33! Jesus
Sad

JO xx

Ah, I remember riding my bmx for miles, playing football, fishing for stickle backs, finding it funny to stick a lighter in front an aersol can Laughing

It always seemed like fun and used to hate going back to school. Now with the internet, PS2 and other tom foolery, if kids are getting bored inside, fuck off outside and play Rolling Eyes

Let her find out what real boredom is and lock her in an empty cupboard for two hours. I bet the complaints will stop.

Jo,

No PS2's, xbox, etc..... You must be from the 'Why Don't You' era then. I remember watching that in the school holidays, going out playing in the local woods for 7 or 8 hours with no worries at all.

My daughter very rarely comes out with the I'm bored line. Looks around the same age as your girl.

Stop attempted child abuse Razz

Why dont you make yourself useful and teach her;

1. How to clean and maintain a bike?
2. How to cook a nice, healthy meal?
3. How to clean the house?
4. how to garden?

The list goes on Razz Razz

(Goes off the phone to report the attempted child abuse Mr. Green )

She's about the right age to start learning to cook dinner for Mummy I think Thumbs Up

I don't ever remember being bored during the summer holidays, I was always out in the fields tormenting the farmer, climbing trees, exploring and being late home for dinner because we got lost Very Happy
I think back and feel so lucky that we could just wander off for an afternoon without fear of paedophiles etc etc.

I'm not sure if the Police still run their Summer Schemes, but that was always a highlight of the holidays - a week of activities and trips. Every year I went to a theme park, did an assault course, outdoor activities (like climbing, canoeing etc) went on a day trip to somewhere - like Granada Studios. Didn't cost much and was fantastic fun. Plus there was always another week taken up with Guide camp, the first week of the holidays I had to go into work with mum, and inevitably help her by typing letters and envelopes. A week on holiday with Mum and Dad leaving only two weeks for the obligatory cycling around, getting lost and thinking up grand money making schemes ("Scuse me mister - can we wash your car?").

They should develop a 'self sufficiency' camp during the summer hols. Make sure kids know how to cook, clean and look after themselves.

So many kids these days dont know anything becuase everything is provided on a plate.

Slightly more on topic, I remember when the summer holiday were never long enough to do what I had planned. The 6 weeks just flew by!

6 week intensive mechanics course, the younger she learns the more money you will save on garage bills.

Or alternatively get her to walk the dog.

Find some jobs for her to do around the house/garden. Pay her a pittance for it but make her think she's getting a good deal.
That's what my parents used to do.

I'm only 27 but it think it was different in my day too. Whatever happened to ramping over bricks on a BMX, climbing trees and making lethal weapons out of bits of wood and nails ?

Kids will alwasy get bored in the summer holidays. I remember nagging my mum. 6 weeks seems like an eternity at that age.

She needs some kind of project. I say make her earn her keep and scrub the kitchen floor after she's cooked lunch.

That's basically what we do at Guide Camp and at meetings through the year.

This last term my little girlies have all learnt how to light a fire (and stop it spreading) how to put out said fire and how to cook a healthy meal over one.
I was impressed with their final meals - they're only 10 and 11.

Basic skills is something as Guiders we are finding children have less and less of. For example every 1 Guide in 10 has never used a tin opener before. Only one of my Guides had used matches before we taught them...

I agree, summer holidays is the perfect time to shift some chores onto the little horrors and teach them how to live. Thumbs Up

PGL You let trained people look after your kids, they meet new people and do activities all the time. Oh, how old is she? Lol

Hacky Sacks

Great if you have no friends to play with, if she gets good she can earn money from competitions.

If me or my bro dared utter the words 'Im bored' our mother would point to the hoover, the dust and polish or send us out to weed the garden, muck out the horses, clean the yard, take the dogs for a walk... you name it, we'd get given it to do. And there was no backing out either... you couldnt suddenly change your mind and go out, no - you were bound to the house to do the chores.

And that was that. If we were lucky she would take us swimming on the Sunday.

I'm only 17 and share the same childhood as some of you lot! I loved it, Summer holidays were ace, waking up early and going to the forests with my mates and climbing trees, playing army men, riding my BMX about and generally having fun, that's the sort of childhood a kiddy should have, I got an hour of Playstation a day most days so had to find other ways to entertain myself. Had a right laugh exploring the local forest and ponds.

Thumbs Up Mr. Green

She was so impressed with their meals that she followed their lead and cooked us Chilli Con Crispy with a hint of incineration the following night! Laughing

I can remember being bored as a kid, but not often.
Spent a lot of time outside on my bike, climbing trees, falling out of trees, losing fishing gear in rivers, jumping in rivers to get missing fishing gear back, etc etc.

However, there's usually a time when your siblings are all busy or away, your friends are all busy or away, and you're left on your own to entertain yourself. The TV is rubbish in the day, and you're bored of your computer games. Playing outside isn't much fun on your own for very long.

Don't worry, soon she'll be jumping into cars with 17 year old boys, and will never complain of being bored. That's the time you'll really start to pull your hair out! Laughing

Forgot about climbing trees, what the feck was that all about? It took ages to get as high as you could, then sit there with a twig pinching your own twig and berries only to find that you could'nt get down without BASE jumping from the top Laughing

Maybe you should get off the PC Jo and go out with your daughter and cherish her innocence while it lasts.

with all the things they have now adays to keep kids entertained and they have a room full of the stuff and i cant believe they are still bored. i got next to nothing but my imagination when i was a kid. i used to steal my brothers megadrive and his bmx and all his spectrum games. and i never complained i was bored to my parents once. i just went outside and played like a good kid.

whats happened to society? how much more money is going to be thrown at boredom! lol
