So I have a question for everyone who has been in, or organised, a wedding. Is it at all possible to stay calm during the whole thing?!

It's now 4 weeks to go, and it's getting crazy!

The grooms family seem to be causing the most problems. My sister chose 3 Bridesmaids, me and our cousin's 2 children. My sister was out for a meal with her fiance and his family a week ago, and the Groom's sister decided she was going to ask my sister, in front of everyone why her daughter (Groom's sister's daughter) wasn't a bridesmaid. The little girl, (she's 13) was there aswell. My sister kind of panicked and said well it's down to money. To which the future sister in law (who since they met has just been awful to my sister) says "That's ok, I'll pay for it!" then asks her daughter if she would like to be a bridesmaid! Naturally the little girl has jumped up and down with excitement and my sis can hardly refuse her.

So, now we have an extra bridesmaid, and we can't can't get the dress that the other kids are wearing in this girl's size. The sister in law is just completely taking the p*ss, bombarding my sister and just causing major problems over this dress and generally making it difficult. My sister is kind of backing down because she doesn't want any stress from anything else. If it was me (and I've offered to say it to her) I'd be saying, "Look that's the dress she has to wear or it's not going to look right, if you can't get it, I'm sorry she can't be a bridesmaid". We've also had my Mum's best friend emailing asking if her daughter can be a Bridesmaid aswell! I can understand it puts my sister in a difficult position. But the whole thing is just making me so angry, that people know she is the Bride and has alot to deal with, and are using it as a way of backing her into a corner. The Groom is angry with his sister because he knows she's manipulating and out of order, and he wants to say something but he knows there wil be another row. They can't say anything, because trouble will be made on the wedding day!

The Groom's brother (who is just wierd!) has also caused problems making certain inappropriate comments about what his mates think are going to happen with me on the night of the wedding. This has caused rows between the Groom and his Mum and the brother is just sh*t stirring. I've got to have the rings even though he is the best man because he can't be trusted.

Now I know that weddings are stressful times, and there's always going to be a few rows but this is getting to the point where I just want to get everyone in a room (well the other family anyway lol) and smack thier heads together. My sister and her partner are so stressed out about the whole thing they feel like they just want to run away and get married. Whenever I hear the word "Wedding" I want to run a mile in the opposite direction.

Up untill now I was surprised about how straight forward and calm the whole thing has been, but we get to 5 weeks away and people just start to throw spanners in the works! How on earth do you get through the whole thing with a scrap of sanity left? Shocked

Yes. I'm a bloke. I was told where to be and at what time and the only involvement I had was choosing my suit and what meal I was having. Laughing

As best man I was fine, Turned up, embarrased the groom, complimented the fat bridesmaids and got drunk.

Job done.

What will be will be Thumbs Up

We planned our own wedding, was onyl stressed by the fact that I wanted everyone else to enjoy themselves, were people going to like the menu, would people talk to each other etc.

Our friends got married last week and the day before the bride was still worrying about the tiaras that were wrong and other little bits and pieces. They had been planning the wedding for the past 2 1/2 years Shocked .

The small things that get people worried and stressed are so small and insignificant at the end of the day.

Its supposed to be a special day and yet nerves and stress will ruin it if not careful.

I did have a long post typed, but in the end it boils down this; the bride and groom should run off and do their own thing, because when you start involving families, weddings suck.

Same here! I let everyone else get on with it! Laughing Wink

Katie, I'm a bit surprised that people are 'asking' for their kids to be bridesmaide's, they should wait to be asked. Or, she (your sister) should have just said, sorry, we are only having 3.

It's the bride and grooms day, other people shouldn't be sticking their noses in if they are not asked to.

If anyone trys to change things, you just need to say 'sorry, its already been organised and this is whats happening......'

Thankfully our wedding went fine with no hastle at all, even the build up to it.

I think your sister just need to be a bit stronger and put her foot down, its her decission after all.

Thumbs Up

It's their day - nobody else's.

Although if they haven't got the bolox (or baps) to say '...this is what's happening, this is what we want' then I'm afraid they're making a rod for their own back.

I only had one special request during my whole wedding. I wrote it down on a small piece of paper and gave it to my missus during the planning stages, It read...

DJ playing Jive Bunny at the Evening 'do' = Annulment Wink

My missus would then see that as a challenge!

I think we're just gonna run off to a beach, somewhere hot and have a big arse party when we come back.

That sister of the groom sounds like a real PAIN in the butt.
It's a shame your sister did'nt tell her that it's too late in the day to change the number of bridesmaids!

I've been married nearly 14 years & at the time we just wanted to go abroad to do it. My mother in-law was a bit sad about that so I agreed to get wed here. Just let her do all the organising. She even made my dress Laughing

I'm going to be doing all that in a couple of months.

Simple way of dealing with it all:

Arrow Get married in another country.
Arrow Don't get involed in any of the planning.

As far as I know my current involvement relies on turning up on the right day, wearing a suit, and saying what I'm told to say.

Not telling most of my family about it helps too, don't want all of them there.

It's your sisters wedding not yours so don;t get too involved.

If at all possible tell her not to marry into the inbred retard's that make up her partner's family. If she does advise her to stay away from them as much as possible.

That'll give them something to chat about for years to come. LoL

Seriously though, I hate having to get dolled up for weddings, I always moan that I can't wear jeans. Crying or Very sad
Get some nice trousers & a top that you could wear again, maybe some girly shoes too!! Wink
