PostPosted: 21:09 - 30 Jul 2006    Post subject: Remote control car fuel.. Reply with quote

Heya, My mate ( hes a ped boi! which explains the next part )

said that he put in Remote control car fuel into his petrol tank ( only a little bit ) and now he reckons hes ped is alot faster.

Normally I would say fuck off, but I was riding with him today and he normally only goes 40mph unless going down a hill, now he was doing around 50mph on flat ground.

Apprantly remote control car fuel is basicly Nitrous Oxide or somthing like that.

My questions.

Can this make ur bike quicker?
Will it fuck up ur motor ( 2t or 4t engines )

nitrus oxide? , whats that got to do with it , N02 is just a substitute for air , air being 5% o2 , Nox being about 20ish %, and surely a remote control car would not use that (and its not mixed directly in the fuel tank anyway), and there are issues with burining more 02 heat issues, its why bikes can't be set too lean.

2 smoke oil , maybe?

yes it will makle it faster and it isnt nitrous oxide, its nitro methane....my dad used to have friend in the RAF, and he used to steal aircraft fuel for my dad to put in his old lambretta 200, it lasted a few days until it went bang....although it went like shite of a shovel.....i would imagine your mates moped will come to the same sorry end

You really need to ask to see a container, a receipt or some proof that he's obtained enough of it to run his scooter off it... otherwise call him a bullsh1tting toad...

Nitro methanol not oxide.

Works as an octane multyplier I think.

yeah, its nitro methonal you can bung a little little bit in your tank and will absorb all the water and it will really kill weeds as well.

no, will it fuck. If its a/c fuel its either avtur (kerosene) or avgas (high octane petrol) neither will make an engine go like shite or blow it up.

Nitromethane is whats used in the car oils, and seeing as its 20% nitro, 20% castor oil and 60% of the other stuff Embarassed I doubt it'll make it run better

The nitro used to run RC cars is basically aircraft fuel. It will give you a considerable boost in performace as it runs much higher octane (not exactly sure how much) than your standard petrol pump.

Aircraft use kerosene as their fuel not nitromethane.

Model aeroplane/helicopter/car fuels are primarily Methanol with nitromethane as an additive. The percentage of the nitro is anything up to 30% depending on the engine and/or your wallet.... 30% model heli fuel is around £30 for a US gallon (3.75ltrs)

Also worth pointing out that the oil is pre-mixed into the model fuel and is usually 18-22%. Can't be doing any good as that's quite a high ratio, and more often than not it's castor oil...yuk!

Well, at least extreme3d knows what he is talking about.

Nitromethane and methanol for R/C car motors. Same as they run top-fuel dragsters on (with other stuff in varying qualtities).

Nitromethane is essentially an explosive, a lot of bang per ml and it doesn't really need air or oxygen to do so. In chemical terms think natural gas in a liquid state with the oxygen it needs to burn already stuck to it and ready to rock. An easy, if somewhat dangerous (and smelly) way to get more power out of your engine.

Methanol is a light alcohol. It burns clean but more slowly than petrol. as such is has a very high octane rating. This means you can run a petrol engine on it BUT you need to use HUGE jets to get the fuel:air mix right. It does allow you to run stupidly high compression ratios though.

So, put nitromethane in your scooter, you get a bigger bang. It could well go faster because the fuel contains more energy BUT with the methanol in it on standard jetting, it'll be running lean.

Combine a bigger bang with a leaner mix and the end result is not going to be pretty.

To avoid any fiurther misunderstanding. Higher octane does not automatically mean higher performance.

If you compress the fuel:air mix too much in an engine it can explode before the spark hits it. This causes 'pinking', essentially overadvancing the ignition timing, which will eventually chew a hole through the top of your piston. A solution to this is to use a higher octane fuel which burns less rapidly.

So, the performance boost is given by running your engine at high compression ratios. The high octane fuel allows you to do this without knackering it.

Hence why a lot of Jap cars only accept 98 octane, they rely on pulling a lot of power out of a relatively small capacity at high compression ratio. The fact that most of the high end cars are turbo charged contributes to this. As stinkwheel said, whilst running higher octane fuel may not give a noticeable boost in performance, it does provide a widened avenue for tuning. Being able to run more boost in a turbo car without detonation for example.

Putting it in his scooter shouldn't really make a difference, depending on the mixture of nitromethane compared to conventional petrol.

Car nitro fuel is of different composition to aircraft nitro fuel though, an aero 2 stroke may only produce 1.0 hp at 15,000 RPM and never see over 12,000 RPM anyway, as well as seeing much use at a particular throttle setting. A car nitro motor could be producing up to 2.0 hp from the same capacity and have a rev range from 3,000 RPM to 35,000 RPM, being totally constantly varied. As such car fuel may only have 3-5% caster oil in it, out of a total 12-18% oil. The higher quality fuels also contain anti-wear agents, anti-foaming agents, lubrication additives, and rust and corrosion inhibitors, so his scooter should be nice and clean inside depending on what he has used. Thumbs Up

Be careful in your use of the word aircraft above. Aircraft covers any 'craft' that flies including helicopters. There is a good deal of prejudice between model heli pilots and aeroplane pilots and those who fly helis wouldn't want to be assoiciated with them!! Laughing

So use the word Aeroplane there in future Wink , as model heli fuels are just as advanced as model car fuels. Being caged in a geared plastic/carbon fibre frame like a car they require a good deal more from their fuel than any simple, basic, old 1950's thinking plank flier would require from his engine sticking up in the breeze just having to spin a plastic propeller!

A model helicopter engine is required to run at a constant rpm with more power being supplied to the rotorblades when high blade pitches are required - without actually increasing the speed of the engine and hence that rotor disk - quite a feat to accomplish. Torque as you can imagine is immense and what is sought after.

(Contrary to popular belief the rotor disk stays at a constant rpm and to go up/down blade pitch is changed)

thats strange my dad always regales me with tales about 6 star petrol which he says you could buy at the pump which was supposedly kerosine,

my dad however is not particularly reliable as a source of information and never honours bets .

However whilst it would be madness to fit an aeroplane engine in a car, helicopter units frequently make it into cars, particularly into large trucks such as the EK4 (.70) so the use is not exclusive to air, like aeroplane engines. So I'll keep referring to them as aircraft engines, if thats ok with you Wink

Laughing ... i don't know.... it's risky saying so as there are a lot of heli pilots out there!

I'd call bullshit m8, kerosene is basically a more refined diesel. Jet turbines run on the stuff!
