indicators are being strange??

i have recently bought an rx50. when i start the engine and put an indicators on it flashes. but when i put on the brakes it stops flashing and stays amber untill i release the brake. can anybody give me ideas or know what it is about ?

sounds to me like either dodgy wiring, or just a loose connection. I've seen cars on the road with that similar problem. When they break their indicators do funny things and vice versa. Sorry that's not much help but all I can think of is the wiring. If you know what you're doing with electrics look in the manual at the wiring diagram usually in the back. Might help, if not take it to the trusty garage

Its your 'indicator flash relay switch' .

Could be a few things , either the cables are
not earthed properly , or your may need a new switch.
Its ok , they are pretty cheap.

as rubix said solunds like a bad earth. check all the points where your harness bolts to the frame.

None of the above. Your battery is probably knackered. Have a go charging it, if it fixes it, great. If it starts acting funny again within a couple of hours, replace the battery.

ive charged the battery and the problem just keeps occuring. ill try to get a new one and see what happens.

i have found something else out, when the engine is running and i give it some revs the indicators flashes again ? i am getting really confused. im going to try my friends battery to se what happens.

My indicators some time lock up and stay on amber when I am stationary with idling revs, have to rev it a bit to get them to flash again. ( I don’t have a battery on my bike)

i have the same problem on my nsr when i have my lights on low sometimes the indicator will just stick and not flash but if i turn the lights off it starts flashing and also fixes the problem when i rev the bike a bit could this be the same (bad earth) as i have checked my battery and its got a good charge? cheers

Check the indicator bulbs power rating. I had the exact same problem with my NSR. It was caused by the charging circuits not being strong enough to cope with head/brake lights aswell as indicators if they are rated too high. I had 21w bulbs in mine, they should have been 10w. I found that I could vary the rate of flash by varying the revs when stopped at lights, or keep them constant by turning off the headlight. Sound familiar?

Yeek.

Everyone missed the important clue there: if it was a bad earth, the indicators would go OFF and stay off when the brake light came on. Also, you'd get the brake light flashing with the indicators. The fact that the indicators would work normally otherwise also suggests not fundamental wiring or component problems.

Indicators working ok with revs confirms it's a weak battery. If the battery itself is ok, then the charging circuit may not be doing it's job. Which could indeed be caused by pimping your bulbs. However, going on balance of probablilities: it's the battery.

Charging the battery is all well and good. But if it's knackered, it won't hold its charge very long and you'll very quickly be back to where you started. Only solution is to have your battery tested by somebody who knows how and has the tools (No, poundstretcher multimeter does not do the job) or to substitute it for one that you know works. Once you have eliminated the battery as a problem, then you can start looking at other things.

very helpful this thread as had the same problem with my indicators for ages. i just trashed the bikes on the back roads and they fixed themselves. connections probably. but will know next time from reading this. my horn is the same it works only after the back roads.
