Ok. what are the true stats on the NSR 125R?
The website www.nsr125.com claims the biek can do 0-60 in 5 secs with a top speed of around 100mph (looking in the derestriction section of the site)
However, i did a 0-60 on my nsr which is fully derestricted and a UK import (i think) and it did 0 - 60 in about 8 secs, and i have only ever got about 89mph out of it and this was seriously ragging it. It gets to 80mph very easily though.
What have other NSR owners got from their bike? can anyone claim the stats on the NSR are true?

Stats differ mate.

Just because Honda say you can do 100, doesnt mean that every bike will be able to.

Being a 2 stroke its very suseptable to a number of factors, rider weight, wind conditions etc... What happens to one, wont necesarily happen to yours.

My NSR had full restrictors in it, (exhaust and inlet i believe) and that did 90mph tops realy, but a comfortable 80.

I found the stats from this place (nsr125.com) very similar and accurate to my bike, so was happy with them.

also depends on the year your bike was made as i belive Honda changed the CDI after 2002 (remember that argument? Razz )

somthing is keeping the bike slow, my NSR does 0-60 in around 5 secs and can happilly do 100mph i think most other peoples NSR's past and present also hover around those stats...
unless your bike is high mileage or as i said the CDI is the restricted version.

Does it really matter? How many people can honestly say, for whatever capacity of bike (with the possible exception of mopeds), that they get the maximum acceleration and top speed out of their bike everytime they ride it, from every set of traffic lights, etc.

I take such facts as interesting figures of what the bike is capable of but I'm rarely bothered to actually see if I can match them on a day to day basis.

I would say it matters because a top speed of 89mph suggests it's not in peak state.

An NSR in a decent state should manage an indicated 100mph or there abouts.

check 2 make sure your bike is running fine then. compression, and if your valves r set up correct and clean your airfilter ect. all the small things add up. oh yer and tighten your chain but not 2 tight a losse chain will make u loose acceleration.
iv hit 90 2 times with a very flat back tyre and slightly loose chain and she could had gone more .
it can do 80 easy but thats the max i would do anyway
oh yer and i got very shit compression Laughing

Yup gotta make sure those 2 stroke valves are working ok. Cam chain tension is also a big issue with those 2 strokers..

Good advice code guru Rolling Eyes

And well done for riding with a flat tyre and a slack chain, even bigger kudos for attempting top speed with it.

Mine does 0-60 in about 6.5/7 seconds, top speed of an Indicated 105.

Derestricted in fuel intake and exhaust, re-jetted and carbon reeds.

Thats normal I think for the NSR's

yep same as my old one, they need to be in good nick , I stripped and re-build mine before it would perform but it needed a re-build anyway, tbh was part of the fun of having it !

I think he's referring to the powervalve as opposed to intake/exhaust.

now now bazza, ive ridden with you and im quite a fan of going slowly, but 125 2 strokes would have no problem keeping up with you

they are light and agile in twisties so can maintain speed easily

i know you have no desire to try one, but you arent really in a position to knock something you havnt even had a test ride on even if you are just trying to be annoying/amusing

i wdnt knock your ducati as i havnt tried one

and of course fuzz is right about gaz's attempt to make the other guy look daft

why cant we just all be nice rather than this peurile baiting all the time

sigh...

I'm not having a go at the bikes or the riders, just the drip-drip chinese water torture threads about how fast they go.

ermm mate a stroke petrol engine dont have a cam, so no cam chain. the vavles are the powervale or what ever they get called depending on who made ya bike.
The only way that a bike thats getting on a bit will be as fast as when new will mean that all the little things need doing, the air filter chain tension, engine compresion level and fueling. also that the wheel bearings are in good nick and well greased and the brakes are not slighty dragging or something. still 0-60 in 7 seconds is still bloody fast and you will probs never get a car that can do that

ok - i will get the bike rejetted and then eventually some carbon reeds.
hopefully this will do the job. the bikes only done 6000 miles. its due it service now! lol just need to find the money for it.
cheers guys you officially made my day miserable, i have been constantly thinking "why is my bike slower than the other nsr's?" lol and with my friend getting a cagiva mito (which i must say looks the shit!) i need the bike to be able to keep up easily with him because he likes to try and fuck off when he can.

Erm, well make sure you know where you're going and let him fuck off?

Anyway, 98% of riding speed is in the rider, not the bike.

Do you know when the last gear box oil change was?
Cleaning the carbs would be a good start before playing with the jets themselves.

Hi

Not a hope in hell that an NSR would manage to get to 60 in 5 seconds.

All the best

I've seen a vid of a mito hitting 60 in 5.3 seconds. Not sure what pipe or carb was fitted.

Check your VIN with somebody who knows their NSRs, they'll tell you what restrictions it's got. If you can't find any information on the interweb, try your honda dealer.

How did they know it got to 60? Hardly like Mito speedos are accurate.

5 seconds is about what something like an RD350 ypvs would manage it in. With a bit more weight (include the rider weight and it only makes about 10~15% difference to the total), about 30hp more and a load more low down power to make it easy to move off.

All the best

Keith
