Can you please give me your views on the Yamaha xv125. I'm interested in all aspects of the bike and not just looks.

I have seen a couple for around the £600 mark, is this good or bad? Confused Thumbs Up Thumbs Down ???

Used Motorcycle Guide says: "Just as with larger cruisers, the learnerbike Virago mutates into a Dragstar. But it's longer and heavier and has no more Go. Is this progress?"

Would it be a good bike to get for a build up to riding bigger cruisers??

Probably, but don't buy it if you want to be able to do dual carrigeway speeds, or go around corners for that matter Neutral.

£600 is reasonable providing they're in ok nick.

Dunno, I've never ridden one. I have seen them and they are bloody enormous for a 125. I can't help thinking that this will mean they are slow and ponderous, which is basically what UMG are saying in a tongue-in-cheek way

Given that the only real thing a 125 has in its favour is being light and manouverable, I would have said avoid one unless you have a particularly good reason.

The honda rebel is well regarded but getting a bit old now, but I've never ridden one of those either. Uses a 125 superdream engine which was quite nippy in its day

The guys at UMG seem to preferr the dragstar to the latest honda 'shadow' though:
"Lorry-like cruiser which gets away with being 'high' powered in the 125 bracket by lugging around enough mass to stall the space shuttle. You could never accuse it of being more style than substance! Makes milder customs like the GN and SR125s look nimble and slim. A low seat height is its greatest reccommendation: save your money, pass your test and buy a big capacity cruiser if it's a big cruiser that you really want."

Honda Rebel: 285lbs
Honda Shadow: 320lbs
Yamaha SR125: 275lbs
Yamaha Dragstar: 305lbs

I had a Marauder 125. Was quick up to 50 then would pull slowly to 60+ . I found it very light and very easy to get round tight bends . Very comfy too. Hope this helps Thumbs Up
