Front page of sutton guardian today, A 16 year old saved up for a year to buy a new moped, within two weeks it was stolen - while he was riding it!
Another moped pulled up beside him and took his keys out at a set of lights and then 9 kids decked him, took his lid and drove off with the bike!
Fucking hell! Poor cunt could only afford TPO insurance so he's fucked!

If you know him, you need to tell him to read this website.

Quote:
What is the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority?
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority administers the criminal injuries compensation scheme throughout England, Scotland and Wales. We pay compensation to people who have been the victim of a violent crime. We operate the scheme from offices in Glasgow and London.

Quote:
Who is the Scheme for?
The scheme allows compensation to be paid to someone who has been physically or mentally injured (or both), as a result of a violent crime. The injury must have happened whilst you were in Great Britain (Scotland, Wales or England) and must also be serious enough to qualify for the minimum tariff award.

He must have some physical and mental injuries after that. He needs to see a doctor to have it documented. The minimum award is £1000.

thats what traps are for on bikes , a large bank of capacitors wired up to the alternator in a stun gun configuration (hell even a 2nd CDI will do) with a kill switch (which as the legit rider you should use before riding) , so anybody who does ride off with it gets stunned once the speedo reaches say 40mph. 40mph being hit repeatedly with such pulses will make anybody come off , and hopefully under a lorry too.

and of course not riding in crap areas ,

I'd also note that those langyards which attach key to your glove or jacket are also highly useful,

Riding at night, whenever i pull up to traffic lights and see anybody nearby I always become slightly fearful that its obvious to everbody and their mum that Im a skinny fecker on a nice little bike who couldnt put up much of a fight if someone wanted it for themselves.

Also, Ive always wondered whether it would be worth even trying to put up a fight anyway. Tis a bit of a dilemma, for me anyway. Do you let them have it, avoid injury and hopefully never see it again or put up a fight, risk injury and end up with bike sliding along the floor causing a load of damage that my insurance wouldn't cover anyway. Can be a crappy little world we find ourselves in at times.

Had it attempted on me on me Mito... I just stuck me finger on the horn to get attention of anyone nearby whilst punching facewards with carbon-protected gloves.... they soon gave up and legged it.

S'why I take my keys out of the ignition whilst riding and stick em in me pocket. If I need to kill the engine in a hurry, s'wot the killswitch is there for (plus I've had me keys jump out of the ignition half way round a roundabout, and 10mins later - upon realising - had to turn round and retrace steps to find the buggers).

Are all Mitos like that or is the barrel broken? To take the keys out of my bike you have to turn the engine off first and riding around freewheeling just isn't as much fun Smile

It happened to Luxy DJ on here.. Right outside Fulham police station if I remember correctley! You just have to watch some areas, some in South London can be particularly bad for it.

Gilera Runners seem to be really popular targets for them - so watch out!

this was mentioned in another thread but

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&item=190020588810&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

it has a engine killswitch on it, you can remotley kill the power from up to 100m away. keep the fob in a seperate pocket from the keys and watch the chavs fly as the engine stops beneath them! Smile I'll be getting me one of these, methinks, for the comedy value if nothing else, they think they've pulled it off and then the engine dies 25 meters down the road and refuses to start again Laughing

I had a friend in London who was always getting jumped on his Runner, never had it so far (touch wood) in Sleepy Derbyshire but i always try to spot an emergency get out spot when stopped at traffic lights for just in case. Not only for being jacked but if you happen to hear squealing tires failing to stop behind you (Been rear ended before, not good).
I dont get too close to the car in front if im stopped at traffic lights and tend to sit slightly to the right of it so that if i absolutley have to i can make off around the side of it. IF i was getting jacked i would run the red light, if it wasnt clear i would either pull a U turn and head back or do my best to merge with the traffic. Best to be prepared!

Happened to me aswell, riding home when a gang run out from the field & kicked me off, i still can't see how he kicked me off, i was on a 125 down a quite road so i wouldn't of been going slow.

I only had TPO so didn't get anything from insurance but i sorted out compensation, that was a few years back it was held back because of the London Bombings, i got it all documented & doctor's forms so it would be nice to get something.

Two tried in Leicester, head butt + upper cut for one, the other bottled it and ran, asked a friend in the police about it and he said not to follow it up as I would probably be looking at a charge of GBH Rolling Eyes

See, THAT'S the kind of bollocks that prevents decent, hardworking people such as ourselves from living in a nice society. Self Defence? The laws are so bloody unclear. It's like guns - you can't shoot unless you've been shot AT...well correct me if I'm wrong, but if they shoot and don't miss then you're kind of f*cked.

It's times like these you wish there was a certain element of common sense in our justice system Confused

i got an alarm with immobiliser a cyclone c-11 will do the trick upto 100m i keep the keyfob in my pocket i'de advise onyone with a decent bike or theif magnet e.g scooters to get one either that or drive a shed like me lol..

word of warning though make sure nothing knocks the fob in your pocket its happened for the first time today having the alarm go off and the engine die is embarrassing especially when you turn alarm off and the bike backfires when you start it again Shocked

"Never pick a fight with someone in body armour..." Smile

Never had an issue but wary of it as a friend was carjacked at gunpoint about a mile away from my house. I think to be honest it's less likely to happen to a biker as people are more likely to be able to drive a car than ride a bike and without a helmet they are immediately visible to the police as a thief or an illegal rider.

I was riding through Leeds and Bradford though at the weekend and was wary of everything around me as there were a few rough areas on the route. Mind you, there were two of us on the bike so less likely to have someone try and steal the bike. I did see quite a few guys on big quads (no protective gear and no plates) though nipping down the rat runs...

They're bullet proof - so I'd imagine if they can stop bullets, that they can keep you warm too Very Happy Laughing
