Well, you have to do what you have to do. It's understandable.

You're welcome to keep the small amount that I paid towards your replacement bike, but I hope you've considered offering everyone else a refund.

I would have thought it only polite, especially as he's hoping to make money when he sells it. In fact I remember you saying that you would offer a refund if the fund didn't pay for a new bike in it's entirety.

I only paid a few quid and so did many others. I doubt they'll be bothered - but it's quite possible that someone stumped up a large amount just to see him back on a bike.

I think you're making the wrong choice but it is your choice to make.

I would discuss via PM if you want but not here.

He is entitled to an opinion Siggi and let's be fair, you did badger everyone to donate SPECIFICALLY for a replacement bike, didn't you ?

I think, if anyone wants a refund, they should PM Andy rather than discussing it here.

BTW - Andy, can I have my £500 back.....

You're drawing far more attention to the post than it would have ever got if you hadn't replied like this. It wasn't meant to be at all malicious however given his post suggested that people may have said he was stupid to buy the Z750 he could have acknowledged that actually, the forum members bought it for him!

You were the one that said:

Siggi wrote:
£2500 is a realistic target, considering the small amount per person and the number of active members we have here, and it'll be a significant achievement. Like I keep saying, something for every member of the BCF to be rightfully proud of.

If we don't make the nut those who agree can leave their money in the pot, others can have it refunded. But that's not going to happen, because we will make the nut.

I've got no idea how much was collected in the end. It may have been that we bought him his bike in its entirety. However, as I said above, I would have simply thought it polite to offer it back - or perhaps even better, to offer it to some other forum member that has lost their bike in a crash (or theft) recently instead. Maybe even offer it to someone who just can't afford a decent bike themselves because of their personal circumstances.

If you didn't collect the full £2000 that he paid for it, you should have been offering refunds anyway.

Yes, you're right, I did "'badger' "everyone to donate SPECIFICALLY for a replacement bike", and looky! He got one!

What he does with the bike afterwards was never mentioned.

So, did the forum buy his bike completely then, the whole £2000? If so, well done boys and girls, I didn't think you would manage.

As to the rest of your post - some people give do a flying fuck about far less than £25. Look at some of the posts in the workshop where people struggle to buy parts costing less than £10 and ride about on shoddy and almost dangerous bikes instead.

He did get a bike. It is legally his to do with as he pleases. But if he sells it (and makes a profit), without ever riding it, and then dissapears from the bike scene - and probably the forum, whatever his stated intention - how many people do you think will donate to the next biker that comes off and ruins his bike?

What happened happened, with good will and for the best. Nobody is trying to rip anybody else off, or scam or con anyone. It's just the way it's all panned out. So take a deep breath, let it go and get over yourself. Wink

And I don't know exactly how much was raised (I was told, but I forget). I collected around £400 I believe, Davo collected the rest. It wasn't 2k though, more like one.

Siggi.

Why are you insulting and ridiculing people in this thread ?

dmahon's opinions are as relevant as yours.

Eh? What the fuck are you chomping on about now? A bunch of BCF members donated part of the 2K, I believe Andy's dad donated the rest.

See, you think hard, but not hard enough.

I quite expected you to weasel out of it by saying that Andy C donated it himself but you managed to do a little better. You, me and everyone else knows that you were talking specifically about BCF buying the replacement bike. You should have offered the money back. No-one would have taken it at the time, but you should have still offered.

When I first joined the forum, I thought you were an arse.

Then I thought I had got you wrong and really you weren't all that bad. Perhaps you put your opinion across a bit too forcefully at times and sometimes without enough justification, but most of the time you were probably an OK kind of guy.

More recently, I've been thinking that actually, first impressions are important.

Hi Maurice,

Just trying to keep the thread tidy.

If people have points to make they should be able to without receiving insults from Siggi.

'S OK, I'm a big boy and can take a couple of insults on the chin.

I've said my piece now and to help prevent this thread ending up in fights and flame wars will try not to make any more replys and let Siggi, should he chose to, have the last word.

Actually Siggi,

My point was (having spoken to Andy a few times) I believe Andy to be the sort of guy who would prefer it if anyone involved were allowed freedom of speech in this thread.

I don't believe Andy would want you attacking people, insulting and ridiculing them.

I'm sure he would want anyone who donated anything to be able to speak their minds on this one.

Smile

Hmm...yes, I probably did. I said "utter bollocks" and "petty spite". Accurate, but I could have put it more nicely (in a non-attacking/insulting/ridiculing stylee).

Up yer fucking arse Hotdog. The fact remains that Andy started a nice thread, and dhamon hijacked it and posted stuff that could only make Andy feel uncomfortable. For no legitimate reason. I considered that malicious, or at least unthinkingly petty, and said so, in my usually forthright manner.

one comment and one comment only

(notes all the usual culprits, shit stirring again)

the People that are now copping the arse with how this money has been spent should have considered the fact that if they wished to attach conditions to their gift then perhaps they should have read the original thread fully first, considered not aiding at all or requesting clarity on the matter at the time.

otherwise STFU

Well done Andy for making a decision which I have no doubt will be right for you.

If Andy is selling the bike, than let him. No doubt he will buy another bike in the near future so your contribution money will still have been used Exclamation

Thats the thing with a gift isnt it? Once you've given it with all your good wishes and best regards, you have absolutely no control over it. The receiver may do with it what they wish. I hope Andy loved the fact we collected and donated, I hope he enjoyed the whole process of buying the new bike and I hope whatever he does with the proceeds makes him smile regularly.

Sorry i have not been able to reply. i was at work 5-12 last night and then went to bed.

Firstly to clear something up.

BCF fund = £690ish
House insurance for all my bike gear = £850
Sick pay + Back pay at work = £450

So, i am very greatful for the BCF fund but the majority of the money came from me.

Also, I VERY MUCH WANT TO RIDE A BIKE AGAIN. I think that was obvious when i spent out on the Zed. However, do you think it worth riding if your told that even the bike landing on you and you could never walk again?!?! I rather a year off then risk never riding again and being in a wheelchair, i was in a wheelchair for a period after the accident and i can tell you its very depressing and would kill me emotionally.

I have also spoke to my Mum about the issue and shes been very good, even was ok with me having the Zed but shes openly says that she would just be waiting by the phone for a call saying it was happering again. When i did my parents traveled 100 miles a day so that at least one of them visited.

My GF also hated bikes before the crash and i know it would break us up as she went though so much, i dont think i should re-pay her thinking it going to happen again.

My accident was a near fatal one, yes im almost fine know but im still on strong morphine based pain killers. I still get discomort and defernetly not healed yet, you think i should be on a bike?!?!? I dont.

Siggi wrote:

If I felt that strongly about it I would PM the person, rather than be a cunt in his thread and at least look like I was trying to pull the guy down.

Thank you Siggi, i think this is how i feel about the post. Like Hotdog said yea it good people speak their mind but what where you trying to achieve dhamon?? Me to think "oh no ill get back on a bike and risk lots because some guy ive never met thinks so". To be honest i wasnt expecting a post like that from you as i always though you were a decent forum member, guess thats changed Thumbs Down

Firstly, i not going to make a profit. Ive already offered it to BCF for what i paid and will put it up £2100 but will get knocked down to £2k as thats what happens in private sales. I hope to stay posting here and i love bikes but BECAUSE OF OTHERS PEOPLE THAT I LOVE THAT I GOING TO HAVE TO LEAVE BIKING FOR A YEAR OR SO AS ITS STILL VERY MUCH IN THEIR MINDS.

Im starting to think your stlightly retarded with your posts about the subject, they started ok but then got a bit Confused. I didnt ask for the money and i lost far more in the accident:

SV650s = £2400 ~£2200 at time of accident
Work pay = 3 Months = £1200ish

So it was hardly a plan to get money. That makes me still £2.5k down which is a lot. I paid for the SV all on my own, no handouts so was very hard when i lost it.

The only reason they escalated was because of Siggi's replies. You'll see the vast majority of them were aimed at him, not you. I think that's fairly obvious to anyone that can read. So, thanks for the insult and next time someone smashes their bike, I'll not get involved in any collection. That's the end of my contribution to the thread.
