Yeah rode across it last week, one week should be doable though I would always try and squeeze an extra few days in. Millau is quite a nice little town, seems to be thriving with all the bridge visitors. It costs something like 3,50 euros to go across, on a small peage section of motorway.
The area around there (Massif Central) is quite scenic, full of huge gorges and rivers and worth a look, although tourist (campervan) traffic can be very slow on the b-roads lining the rivers.
Anything more specific you want to know just say.

im going there tomorrow!!! but in a car... with my parents....
we've done some holidays near there . We usually stay at a campsite not far from there in the gorge to the the west, its peaceful and holiday company's have mobile homes there. Which sounds bad at first but u just sleep in the thing and its not that bad, especially at £15 a night! search for a company called canvas, they usually have a good deal on there.
but i hate going over big bridges, and of course everyone goes over that one very slowly, so i bricked it.. but the local area is really nice, and if u do go there try and arrange a canoeing trip down the tarn river, its peaceful, costs f**k all and u get to see all the beauty of the place.
but for now... i've got to pack my stuff in the car so have fun ____________________ add me on msn for info on CAT 2 immobalisers, and cheap fitting in the crawley area |

Nb, its got to be worth it... as a family we do a two day trip down there in the car, cruising at 100 to the over-night stay.. which is in a tent usually. Then up in the morning and off to the Tarn, get there just in time for dinner and a swim in the pool. Then 10 days of canoeing and wooing the french ladies.. then home, which is a reverse of the trip down, and its cheaper than a package holiday by miles..
Im gunna do it when i finally get a license and a bike on the road, but when that will be... no1 knws
cheers ____________________ add me on msn for info on CAT 2 immobalisers, and cheap fitting in the crawley area |

Hi,
I went down there last week. Perfect views and if you follow the road down about another 15k's you'll come to the best motorway in the world. Just fast constant radious corner after corner. Oh how the zx9r loved that road
If you want a top campsite to stay at, I would recommend Camp Moto Rendevous (I don't know if that's spelt right but it looks pretty much right to me). The campsite is in Lunas on the D138 about 1 km from the main town. To get there once you've done the roads I mentioned above, the motorway will straighten out and you should see signs for Lodeve, you want to take this exit and head towards Lunas. This will take you along some lovely freshly tarmacked mountain roads, you'll absolutely love them. Just before you get to lunas (less than 500 meters), there is a road on the right which doubles back on the way you've come still going down hill. Follow this road about 1km and you'll see the camp site on your right hand side.
The camp site is just for motorbikes so you won't find any cars in there and they're not allowed.
Take care on the small roads, some of those corners could take you by surprise. Just remember in places like this, they don't have much money for road signs, so when you see them, it's very important to follow them.
Hope you have a good time. |

11th September me and the wife are heading to Millau for 2 days to see the bridge, dilemma is do we take the motorway from Clermont ferrand to millau and spend a full day in Millau or do we take the route through the gorge (fully loaded) and get there at tea time then it's onto the South coast road and back through the Alps for the rest of our trip. |

It's hardly set in the most scenic part of Southern France - There are places far more beautiful and serene only a few valleys away. The bridge itself is architecturally boring and bland - Just the same as any motorway viaduct. Yeah it's pretty long and pretty high, but not really in a dramatic way. Interesting to look at for all of about 2minutes, but then I felt the need to go and do something more interesting such as riding the twisty and scenic D-somethingorother road heading east out of Millau. | I'd agree, in some respects, but if you catch it on just the right day, it looks like its floating above a sea of cloud, which is quite special.
Other than that, the only reason to go is to see the roads nearby. I still standby my comment that the claremont ferrand to montpellier motorway is one of the best in the world (as much as I hate motorways). ____________________ Travelling around the world...a bit at a time. Yours catch the sensation of height better I think Courageous.
I quite like the elegant design of the bridge, not that I would travel thousands of miles just to see it, but I can see why it's a 'convenient' destination or something to aim for, bit like the Faro rally or a foreign GP etc.
Here's a distance shot from the top of one of those beautiful valleys close to it.
