How long has it been since you gave them details of your driving licence?

You may be better going and seeing them in person or actually calling them.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a new unwritten rule regarding jobs and applications. New practice seems to be that if you hear nothing within six (give or take) weeks, then this usually means you haven't got the job. Thumbs Down

In this case, if they have promised you the job (did you get anything in writing?) then you should persue it. Thumbs Up
Make sure you gather all the evidence to prove you attended an interview, who it was with, who assured you of employment and of course, copies of your references and your driving licence.

Try the following letter - it reminds them that you are still interested in the job, and if you were not successful, they may tell you why, which can only be useful for future applications.

Thumbs Up

Quote:
Dear Mr (whoever interviewed you)

I recently applied for the position of (insert job title here) with ADT, and as a result of my interview I was asked to produce references and to provide proof of my identity, which I did on (insert date here).

I wonder if you could tell me whether I was successful in my application for the position, or if I wasn’t, is it possible to give me some constructive criticism for the future.

Yours sincerely

Phone the person who told you you had got the job, what you think of as 'pushy' they will think of as enthusiasm, when i was in a managerial position I never employed anyone who didnt ask for the job!

Firefox,

i cannot stress how much better a phone call will be than a letter. Send the letter if it will give you piece of mind, but give the contact at ADT a call personally.

I work in Recruitment and pretty much always its the person who calls in an takes an interest who is the one we end up pushing for ourselves. Afterall, we have to sell that person and be enthusiatsic about them to the client.

Call in and ask if there has been any progress on your application - if not ask for a time scale and when you should call back again.
If you are unlucky and you didnt get the placement, ask for feedback as to why. Shows you have an interest and they may keep you in mind if the feedback isnt terrible.
The feedbackwill also help for future interviews/applications as you will be able to learn from your mistakes.

Seriously, call them.

I'd ring or email.
If they have lost your contact details or something daft, messing about with snail mail means you get an answer slower, and they might just give the job to the next guy down on the list.

I wouldn't email. Purely because they can be deleted or ignored far too easily. Plus some people view them as an informal method of communication (I don't agree but you're not contacting me!).

I agree about the lost contact details malarky Thumbs Up
Contact them ASAP.

Definitely telephone or go and see them. Even better - try to do both. If you call and they can't give you explaination make an appointment. If they tell you you haven't got the job still make an appointment for feedback Thumbs Up

i do work for ADT/Scotshield/CTM.. it's a good job if you're into that kind of thing.. take it it's mostly fire alarms you'll be dealing with?

if so maintenances are piss easy... but can get boring, sorta.
installation work is ok as long as you're not dealing with pyro.

other than that ADT jobs i get are pretty good, seem like a good company to work for and actually give you plenty of time to complete jobs unlike the other mentioned above.

I don't think you can really sound too pushy if you're asking about the progress, just call or visit and keep asking and if you show you're eager there's definitely no harm in that, just more likely to get the position imo.

Anyway hope you get it, sounds like you've got it anyway! Thumbs Up

Why did you email? Email is very impersonal and can show a lack of enthusiasm. Ringing would have been far better!

That being said, did they give you any other information? There is no reason why the should be annoyed with you for wanting to be updated on any developments! After all, you could have been offered another (less preferable) job which you are unwilling to decline until you are certain that you will have employment from ADT.

If they are awaiting a CRB check on you that means that they have paid for one (they're quite expensive - in the region of £40) which is good news.

It sounds like you have some difficult choices to make - are your GCSE grades good enough for you to start college?

I have hung around waiting for a job I've been told I had only for them to change the contract completely when they finally (two months later) got around to offering a start date. I had to refuse the job, which left me in an awkward situation having turned down other jobs in the meantime.

The vetting will be for your CRB (criminal record bureau) background check. This can take up to four weeks, and costs in the region of £40 as Annabella said. They wouldnt do this check if they werent going to give you the job as it takes time and money to do.

So basically your through, as long as you dont have a shady background.

Congratulations mate Thumbs Up

Did you fill in a form then firefox? Because to get a CRB, whether standard or enhanced, you have to complete an application form complete with your signature.

Just so you know, I have waited over 8 weeks for a CRB check for some of the employers i support! Altho that was an enhanced one (i'm not def sure on timescale for a standard one)

The CRB checks I have done for our Guiders have been taking on average 7 weeks to come through. That being said Becky's arrived within two weeks, and mine after four...
