If you were only going to see the bike, with a view to buying it, you can't expect him not to sell it to someone else (bird in the hand and all) - but not letting you know is definately out of order.

Its a kicker when you have all the intentions, put the effort in and then some twat sells it to someone else.

It was a ebay auction that l was biding on that did,nt make the reserve so l phoned him and he wanted £5900 for the bike but l got him to agree on a price of £5400 and to pick it up today which is a bargain for a 2004 SP2 with only 4000 miles on it.

Just found a 2003 954 marlboro rep blade for a grand less than the SP2 l wanted, so l,m going to look at it on monday and hopefully l,ll get it.

basicy l want ethier a 954 fireblade or a SP2 for under £5500

Look on it that that one just wasn't meant to be. When you buy the 954 Marlboro rep blade on Monday and save a grand into the bargain, you'll believe me! Laughing

£5.5k and were wanting an SP2? I'd get myself an Aprilia RSV1000R. There are loads of 2004 bikes around with around 5k mileage for that sort of price.

I kind of agree with dmahon on this one, from what you have told us I am not surprised this has happened. You aren't the first and certainly won't be the last to suffer from this type of scenario

I will take a guess what has happened, the auction has ended and the bike didn't make the reserve. You made contact with the guy and bartered him down by £500 without seeing the bike and without sending him a deposit. In the meantime someone else has probably done the same but maybe didn't barter him down as much and went to see the bike before you could do. He has agreed a price with the seller and the seller has sold it to him. In the sellers eyes he is going to let the first man to put the cash in his hand take the bike away and sod everyone else. This is fairly normal, there tends to be no loyalty/morals when selling vehicles.

It is wrong of the seller not to contact you though to let you know the bike has gone. Especially after you had arranged a van etc. But unfortunately it goes on, just remember though that there is always a better deal out there somewhere than the one who have just missed out on.

i won an ebay auction and thought the bike was mine and was gutted when the seller said he had already sold it. Someone made him a cash offer to end the auction early.

I ended up buying a better bike, and so will you.

Tatters,

I've had someone sell a bike as i was actually on my way to see it, its a bitch, but it happens, and i dont think you can really blame the seller.

If he'd taken a deposit from you for it, that would be different, but with nothing in writing, and with no money having changed hands, you dont owe each other anything.

He should have at least told you though.

Bollocks you cant blame him if he sold it, its common decency if you have already sorted out at deal then to say its been sold.

I don't think a definate deal had been done. From the SE forum:

tatters wrote:
I'm going to look at a 2004 Honda SP2 on Sunday in Poole and will most likey be buying

Would tatters have still gone down there if he'd found a better bike locally for £500 less on Friday? No.

He should still have phoned though.

That was from the SE forum on the 23rd, He had actually sorted out a deal since then.
He was a prick for not even ringing him to say look ive sold it.

However, I've had it from the opposite side - someone saying they definately wanted the bike and they were coming to pick it up at the weekend - then after you wait in all day you call them and they say they don't want it - in the meantime you have turned down 3 other potential buyers.

I always operate a first come first served basis now, but I would let the other buyers know when it was sold.

Yea, i have to agree. When i sold my moped i put it in autotrader quite cheap as wanted quick sale and got least 20 calls. Told them all it was first come first serve and when poeple were coming to see it. That way you cant be blamed if its sold. Also rang all the poeple after which that guy should have done Thumbs Up
