Dont worry
Basildon Hospital is shite, they dont have the correct facilities (Neonatel ITU) to help ventilate such a small and premature baby. Chances are that the baby will be transfered to Great Ormund Street until fit enough to be released home.
Whilst there, the parents are offered accomodation (and someone even said a small wage to compensate for a lack of income whilst in hospital) to make the whole hospital thing more bearable.
The important thing is to be strong and support the GF as she may be blaming herself. You also need support at this time too.
Good luck fella ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Ask the doctor to sit down and properly explain to you what is likely to happen, what hospital they will transfer the baby to etc.
As regards somewhere to live, are you on the council waiting list? If not, get up there now and do it. If you are, then tell the council that the baby will probably be arriving earlier than expected. This should move you up the queue.
Best of luck with it all, and look after yourself as well as your girlfriend.

Detecting a fetal heart beat is quite a difficult thing to do at the best of times, it all depends on the position of both mum and baby. Its all to do with conduction of electricity through muscle, if the baby is nt against the mums belly, ie turned or rolled, then the contact area is reduced and the signal that is seen or heard is also reduced.
By telling your GF this is probably just aggrevating the situation. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Just spoke to her, she seems to have calmed down a bit and the doctor has literally just turned up. I'm glad that she's got her mum and dad there with her at the moment, but she said she'll ring me once the doctors gone.

My cousin was born at 26 weeks - worrying time i remember but all turned out fine (she's about 11 now i think ). Infact, she was transfered from one hospital to another i seem to remember.
Why not ask what happens if baby turns up sooner rather than later. Write down all them questions that you got running around in your head and when you see the doc ask him/her (they wont mind/ bite).
If there expecting baby soon they will have things in place as to transfering mum & baby to an appropriate place - but ask - its better to ask than let it get to you |

My little boy was prem so they gave me steroids to mature his lungs as he was early. He was in scbu (special care baby unit) for three weeks and then when he regained his birthweight we were allowed home. He's 5 now and is perfectly normal compared to other kids his age, even though he was a lot shorter to begin with. As has been said there is so much they can do for a premi baby of 24weeks upwards now. I'm sure your baby will be just fine
Good advice there about speaking to the doctors, you need to know exactly what is going on and where they may be transferred to. |

Thanks for all the comments and PM's, they've been really helpful, . This last week hasn't been particularly enjoyable.
There's been some good news today though. Seeing as she hasn't been leaking any blood (that was quite a regular occurence) for the last 2 days the doctors have decided to let her come home! She's so happy, as am I, although it's quite obvious that she'll be doing absolutely NOTHING for the next few weeks.
Many thanks for your comments, . ____________________ TS50 > Senda 125 > ZXR400 > CB-1 > GSX-R1000 > Bandit 600 > ZXR750 H1 > GSX-R750 SRAD > '98 RR-W Fireblade > T595 Daytona > Hornet 900 > '04 Fireblade > GSX-S1000F (x2) > '23 XSR900 |

Glad everything has settled itself for the moment, it may be a rocky next couple of weeks. Just relax and take it easy, dont over excert, take plenty of rest and dont worry as this will elevate any stress on the body.
It must have been a very worrring time, no body expects to have problems in the pregnancy.
Hope you three are ok and all the best ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Well as ever things haven't turned out as planned, .
She phoned me at 7 this morning in tears saying that she's been bleeding again in the night and the consultant has said she cant come home. She's booked in for a scan at King's College tomorrow morning as apparently there a little concerned over the babies growth.
I feel like I'm going insane, one minute it's all looking good and now this.
