Moved into our house nearly 3 years ago now. For reasons I can't understand the previous owners abandoned the cat that lived with them. The house had remained empty for about a year and the cat went ferrel...
We moved in and I occasionally saw this cat hanging around the garden.... two or three months went by and then one day I saw it sitting in the garden looking very pitiful and thin. We had some ham in the fridge which was passed it's sell by date so I went and got it. As I opened the packet the cat stared at me with wide eyes. Didn't know whether to stay or bolt off. It absolutely demolished the ham. Hardly tasted it. Just swallowed. It kind of plucked a heart string and I bent down to stroke it. It ran off. Whatever Mr. Green After that whenever there was a little food left over I'd keep it for the cat. To be honest I made sure there was some left over Wink I didn't tell the missus for a while as I knew she'd be funny about fleas, disease and wouldn't want to encourage it.....
Went for some petrol one day and saw some cat food for sale.
I thought "kin ell puss will love that" and bought some Mr. Green
She did 'n all Mr. Green Wolfed it down. I kind of hid it but in a way that the missus saw it but didn't say anything.....
One day she came back from Tescos and flamin hell she'd bought luxury cat food and some of that dry stuff for a second course Mr. Green
Well by now puss was letting me stroke her and would run over when I opened the garden door. It's pathetic but it made me feel...well happy. I even bought her a bell on some string Embarassed
The missus still wouldn't let me have her in the house so I made a sort of kennel for her and blimey she started to use it straight away. Again, it made me feel...happy.
One day at the start of the summer we had the door open. Puss would come and sit on the doormat. Wouldn't come any further in. Just the doormat. The missus said "well as long as it's no further..." So this went on. Now let me say at this stage the missus was attacked badly by a dog when she was little and still has the scars to prove it. She finds dogs, cats difficult to deal with so I appreciated her efforts to come round.
About 3 weeks ago puss walked into the living room Mr. Green The missus just stared at her, was silent for a moment and said,
"I guess we'll have to get her a basket Mr. Green Thumbs Up
The present day. She's sat on my lap now purring away. I've got the keyboard tilted at an odd angle because I'm a wuss and don't want to disturb her Mr. Green
The thing is. I'm definitely happier. I don't know what it is but something about having this animal in my life makes me feel better, more relaxed. It confuses me but I'm not going to knock it, I'm just glad for it.
Does anyone else feel like this about their pets?
I'm so resisting posting a pic but I might give in later Middle Finger Wink

Andy.

Yep, I love coming home to Stanley the Staff. He's a right soppy git and is always chuffed to see me (as I am him). He's cost a fortune in the 13 months we've had him but I wouldn't change him.
Pets are cool.
(Dogs are better tho' Wink )

About 7 years ago when we lived in Cyprus we got a pup off a mate. Her dog had a 10 pup litter so we chose one.
When the time come to move back to the UK it cost my mam and dad about £500 in fees to get the dog home. She'd of died if she was put in kennels for the 6 months quarenteen period, so we sent her over to live in germany with her mom. (the owners of her mom had moved to germany previously).

She lived in Germany for 6 months, and they were the shittest most empty 6 months ever.

Finally we got her home. and thats where shes been with us for the past 6 years now.

i moved out about 6 months ago, Im in my own place now. I see the dog About once a week. But sometimes i go back to my mums house randomly just to have an hour with her (The dog that is).

if I didnt have such a labouring job and such a mess of a garden, id gladly have the dog living here with me, but its not suitable.

But I agree, Pets really do bring a magical experience to life. but the sad thing is they always have to die one day. Sad

Aww Delvard.. that is such a lovely story !
Genuinely Thumbs Up

I ADORE all animals, and my house would not be a home without them Karma

I have one (large) dog, 2 cats (Beavis and Jasper..my beav is almost 12 now...old man..sob), lots of trop and coldwater fish, a bird...
and I want MORE
But OH said we don't have the room Sad Thumbs Down
I only want another puppy and a couple of kittens Laughing A skink, another puppy...

In the past I have had hamsters, rats, birds... I love caring for creatures

The BEST thing though is the total unconditional love they have for you
Nothing beats it !!
Walking in to the sight of a dog in absolute raptures because you have come home
What man would do that for me !!?? Mr. Green
He thinks I am great, and every time I return is like he hasn't seen me for months
Bless

My cats are equally great
Beav loves playing 'fetch'
I get either a ball of tinfoil, or a hair band, flick it...he runs, gets it, and bring it back to me and drops it ! So adorable
Jasper is the most beatiful, loving cat
Whenever he sees you, or wakes from a sleep.. he will cry at you for attention. Kind of like a baby wail. As if he has missed us SO much, he needs to let us know

It is wonderful that your wife has accepted said puss, and I feel her (and your) lives will be enriched for it

Take care of each other !!
Jo xxx

Oh...AND PHOTO !!
You KNOW you want to ! Surprised
We need to see the pussy Wink
Have a drink, then lose your inhibitions about being soppy and DO IT man Very Happy Thumbs Up

I don't know who's worse, you for being a soppy c*nt or me for having a fucking tear in my eye Laughing

I'm the same. I think animals are wonderful creatures and they do enlighten my life.

Before moving to York five years ago, my ex and I would have to get the train through from Middlesbrough to view houses. It was a pretty miserable affair with us walking miles on end during the flood season.

When we arrived at a flat we were viewing there was this little ginger and white cat outside looking pretty miserable too. But he came over and Jo gave him some cuddles and he seemed quite happy. To this day it was him walking over that made us take the house.

Anyway I was self employed at the time and when we moved in we found out that he was the neighbours cat and he was pretty neglictited.

To start with I'd go outside with some ham that was going of and he'd wolf it up. Much like yourself I was took by this and how hungry the little blighter was, and I felt really good getting him some top notch tucker (christ between me and Jo he began to get better figgin meat than we did). But he wouldn't come in to the house as he was still unsure of us.

Anyway, it got to the point that I would get up in the mornings and he'd be waiting for me at the door. He'd look up and give me a big meow and come into the kitchen.....then eventually the living room then eventually he started sleeping on our bed.

By this point we spoke to the neighbour and she let us keep him and Max came to live with us. Jo keeps him now but I still get visiting rights (sad I know) and he recognises me instantly still. And he never fails to not fill me with joy with his funny little antics and rolls for belly rubs.

The thing is he is soooo clever. I damaged my hip and it became swollen and badly bruised. THe wee tike would lick the area and sleep on it to heat it up. If I ever got Irritated bowel syndrome he's lie next to my belly as your could see he knew I was ill. For little animals they can show an incredible amount of affection and, unlike people, they offer unconditional love back, as long as you give em a little of your time.

Animals are great Thumbs Up

My kitten Grilli is an utter cretin.

If I leave him at work all night, he shreds my labouriously folded kitchen roll across the whole floor in retribution for being left all by himself at such a tender age (5 months).

He stalks everyone's legs, shreds lacy topped hold-ups, bathrobe belts, basques with lace-up things on them ... and bathroom sponges.

I am petrified that he will be hiding under a bed flexing his claws, when I leave a punter in the room Rolling Eyes

And he scrounges food (successfully) from every single girl, even the ones who are allergic to him somehow manage to drop him little scraps when I am not looking (yesterday he was eating some Russian "pigs ear and cheek" delicacy - nicer than it sounds: a bit like brawn, if you like that sort of thing) - he is very fond Greggs' steak bakes, and often is bought his own personal packet of Marks and Spencer premium corned beef.

As a result, his litter tray is a nightmare, and as his owner, I am the only one with the privilege of emptying it Shocked

But life is much less stressful and happy with him in it.
He's so furry and strokeable, and has such HANDSOME stripes.

The little git Rolling Eyes

What a great thread Mr. Green Smiled so much reading the replies. The only problem we are having at the moment though is that she can't (literally) get her head round the cat flap. She'll come into the house through it (after me spending ages looking at her through it going "puss puss, come on, puss puss....")
But she doesn't seem to get the fact that she can go out through it as well, so we have to open the door Mr. Green
Got to say though, when she comes in and I hear thoughs paws trotting down the hall and then that funny purr/miaow noise she does as an "hello".....well I'm such a mug. Good though Mr. Green

Cats do that. You'll find they always conveniently forget how to go our of a cat flap if theres someone they can persuade to open the door for them instead.

Its worth taking her down to the vet for a check up, and flea and worm her - otherwise you'll get fleas in the house, and de-fleaing a house is a lot more effort than de-fleaing a cat.

I'd love to have a little Jack Russell or summin in my flat, but it would be stuck in all day so I don't Sad

My parents have a habit (or my mum has) of bringing stray dogs back from Spain Rolling Eyes (dunno why she can't pick one that's local) Laughing We had five at one point, but it's now down to two dogs and one cat.

Love seeing them everytime I visit my parents *wipes tear from eye*

Very Happy

I love my cats more than i love people actaully.

Salem the black cat head butts everyone and makes weird noises, bravest cat in the world. Found her untop of the chimney one day having a look about the estate. Beats up big dogs and comes for car rides to the shop. Love it when you pick her up and she hangs on to you like a koala bear stuffing her head into your shoulder. She loves the cat nip also and hitting my other poor cat socks when she is in a mood. Throws psychos also and runs up and down the stairs and skids on the wooden floor. She also speaks back when yuo talk to her. I have a harnace for her and a lead and she jumps into it when she wants a walk, she is allowed in the back garden alone but i would not like to loose her.

Socks is the fat lazy one who crawls inder the duvet and snuggles in my stomach, then comes up again and drools all over me. She is scared of everything and looks nasty. she is just a big purring machine thats soft to pet. Also fond lying in the most awkward positions.

I am very tempted to show pictures right now lol they my children, alot easier to look after and you can leave them home alone Thumbs Up

DELVARD

You sir have just won some major Kudos and Brownie points Thumbs Up

Brilliant thread.

I was never interested in cats until a few months ago when i bought my uvver arf 2 kittens.
I have become really attached to the runt 'Poppy' who doesn't seem to be growing at the same rate as t'other one.

They both puuuuurrrrr away sat on my lap while i'm on the PC or watching telly, if i take them to the vets they are left loose in the Land Rover to climb the dog guard and mooch about, peering out of the windows.
They give me hours of enjoyment and they are VERY content kitties.

Dragonfly's 'SOCKS' cat is a spitting image of our 'Lilly'.... orrrrrrr.

Animals are great for people with special needs. My sister goes to a special school and they arrange horse riding and have alot of pets round them. Helps apparently.

PUSS !!!!!!!!!

She looks a lovely cat
Nice green eyes, and lovely mottled fur

You can see in her eyes though, that the evil survival streak is still there !! Has been very tough for her I imagine

One of my old cats who has passes, Buster, used to be like that
Feral...wandered about, did his thing, then came back to me for a break, cos he loved food and cheese n onion crisps !! Surprised
She reminds me of him

Take care !
