Just got my own YBR
the 5 minute ride down the road to get it home was very favourable - it handles really smoothly and is sooo much nicer than the shop's Yamaha SV hire bike
I'll post again after going for a bit more of a ride round, but so far I've got nothing but praise for the thing.
as far as depreciation goes, I think I got a fairly good deal on my bike, and it was a birthday present anyway But we got the good deal by getting it from a Yamaha dealership and getting some special season offers on it.
as for the CG, the only reason I didn't get one is because I live 5mins from a Yamaha dealership, and they're providing my training and all, and I've already saved a lot on discounts on training and bikehire because I'm getting my bike from them, so I'm a valued customer
Basically, get what's convenient. I'll be around here most of the time I have my bike so it makes sense for me to get it from the local dealership, which happens to be a Yamaha one so I got a Yamaha. |

I've been riding a YBR for the last 3 months, and the experience has been superb. For a 125 it's quite a large bike, and I've been stopped twice in the street by people who want to know "is that a 125?" - they were confused by the fairly large/heavy look of the bike and the fact I have L plates on! I did a lot of research into the YBR before I got it, and as far as I'm concerned it's way superior to the Honda CG (in terms of classiness / looks / features) which retails at the same price new. Had no problems with it yet - apart from envious looks . Of course, they depreciate like hell if you buy new, so get one with a few hundred miles on the clock and get a third off the price! Mine had 500 miles on the clock and cost me £1400 in mint condition. Mind you, the one you've got there looks like an import of some kind - so I couldn't speak for that. Anyhow, YBR is a nice choice for the discerning new rider! |

Got my YBR125 yesterday! Very nice bike.
But just so you know, it doesnt have a side stand.
Also, ive dropped it already at least its out the way.
Was a bugger as I think i flooded the engine ____________________ MJW |

There you see the problem with getting a new bike to begin with.
Dropping it is almost an inevitable part of learning to ride, unless you're very careful. A 10 yr old battered and bruised CG125 can be dropped all day without significant damage or drop in value. A new bike is depreciating like a stone anyway, damage makes it scarily faster to drop in value. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

i had a ybr for a year, very efficient and reliable, not the fastest of bikes but a very solid all rounder for year round use i did around 2,500 miles on it around london and it was great fun. £7 fills the tank and you get around 200 miles from it
if it's a practical bike with reliability for a reasonable price, get one. |

Hey all, new to the forums
just bought my ybr125, sitting the cbt tomorrow! and 99 quid for insurance you cant do better. My dealership said over 8 months itll lose 600 quid in value, and thats if i keep it in good shape, but for a brand new bike which is respect, and insurance for 2100 quid, its not that bad a deal in my opinion. Now do we have a forum on how to derestrict it? |

the only problem I've found is that the gears have a tendency to misbehave whenever you miss a few gears changing down. I'm not sure whether it's a fault with this bike or whether it just needs to be ridden in, but sometimes it won't let me select neutral and other times it's already in neutral and won't let me select any other gear. Oh, and the neutral light occasionally lies
Other than that, I can still highly recommend it as a decent learner 125. The gear problems are probably just down to me riding like a complete noddy and I'm sure they'll iron themselves out. The bike's pretty big for a 125, but it's built quite low to the ground (which is ideal if you're a short-arse like me).
Having said all that, I've only done about 12 miles on it and I've been riding bikes for all of twelve days, so your milage may vary. |

gears are sequential, mate - you can't miss em out.
but yeah, I know what you mean about getting in and out of neutral... more than once I've tried pulling away, thinking I was in 1st, only to find that I'm actually in neut..
probably it is just because we're a pair of n00bs.. I can't imagine a nice new bike having serious problems like that of its own. |

yeah, sorry. I mean when you shift down a couple without letting the clutch out
It all seems to behave provided I let the clutch out every time I shift, but selecting first or neutral after a sudden stop seems to be a bit more of a hassle than it was at the training centre.

heh. Most likely |
if i can make a suggestion about not finding neutral and feeling like a bell-end at the lights with untold cars beeping at you from behind .
ahh yes i remember it well, it can be cured.
i'm guessing your pulling the clutch lever all the way back to the handle?
that's what i used to do and most times it would work but i asked my instructor why it didn't always work.
the answer is not to pull the lever all the way back, just pull it slightly past the biting point and when selecting 1st the bike will judder slightly, this is a good way of identifying engagement,
it also is a surefire way of getting 1st gear every time on the ybr125.
Hope that helps and reduces further embarrassing moments.
Good luck |
