Hey, on ebay there seem to be alot of what I assume to be import bikes being sold BRAND NEW! They seem very tempting for first time buyers I believe as you get a brand new bike for quite cheap.

Was just wondering if any one owns or knows about brands like:
Kinroad & Lifan

As they are cheaper I expect the build quality is much lower? Basically I was wondering if they are a pile of shyt or not.

Thumbs Up

I think Dragonfly rides a Lifan?
Never heard of them tbh - I'd stick with the regulars.

What's wrong with a sound second hand bike? Confused

Kymco are offically sold in this country. They're korean or chinese. Better build quality that the ebay crap but with terrible second hand value for you to take advantage of. Go get one.

I will almost certainly get a second hand bike but I was just looking through ebay and all the cheapy new ones look quite tempting, especially with 3 years no MOT and 1 years warrenty.

I do suppose they would be poor to sell on.

Dont buy a lifan! they fall to bits, i have had to replace alot on that bike as it was built with cheap parts. The engine is ok on them but the rest wont last. Mine wasnt even put together right i dont think. My wheel alighment is all messed up and gear box at the moment and i have a 3 year old lifan. You cant get parts for them anywhere! Twisted Evil alot of hassel, better off with a name you know and can get parts for.

Dunno if it's the same with bikes, but although Chinese cars look a lot like western or Japanese ones they ain't. They rip off the look of certain cars (Daewoo Matiz and Vx Frontera spring immediately to mind) and build them right down to a budget. The result is a car that looks ok on the outside but bows under the strain of its own weight and kills all its occupants in anything more serious than a parking ding.

Like I said, dunno if it's the same for bikes, but I'd imagine it won't be too different. If something is that cheap ask why it's that cheap. If something seems too good to be true it probably is.

A lad down the road from me got a GY 125 off roader about 3 months ago for £600 it arrived in a crate so we had to put the wheels handlebars forks etc on and take it down the local DVLA to register it. I got to say I was quite impressed with the spec ie twin pot calipers front and back electric as well as kickstart twin horns and the only bad bit was the buzzer built into the indicators...Bit of gaffer tape stopped that lol. It's pretty similar to the jap 4 stoke 125's Honda XL-r or suzuki DR 125's just looks more modern top whack is 75mph with a 15 stone rider but cheap as chips to run and a full plastics body kit including the tank is only £10 !!!!!

£600 will get you a 10 yr old tatty jap 125 so I think they offer a good way into biking and it hasnt missed a beat so far. We dropped the oil after the first 50 miles and it was spottless which leads me to think they fill them in the factory then flush them after doing the engine checks!!

i dont think 3 months is enough time to see how bad they can get.

not that all chinese bikes will be the same but the majority are poorly made and tend to fall apart and rust quite quickly.

also, do you think 50 miles is enough to be able to comment on the condition of the oil?

forgot we were talking about similar @ https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=92801

"top whack is 75mph" its 75 kmh and it will do 45 mph (screaming) with someone that weight unless you change back sprocket and even then you will only get 55mph at a push. A 4 stroke chinese bike will not do 75mph unless pushed off a cliff. Some possibly come with a smaller rear sprocket but it will not do 75mph.

Yes watch out. I bought a GY 125 Off E-bay £650.
Nice looking bike - I passed my test and managed to sell it for more than I paid.....just in time as it was breaking out in rust

Dont think I would risk it again. It is a shame they rust so easily as the Engine is good Crying or Very sad

Don't buy one. The heap of shite I bought a couple of year ago is due for its first MOT next year. I'd be astounded if it passed.

I've brought a AJS Regal Raptor (125) at the beginning of the summer and to be honest I'm well impressed. Bit of a bugger to keep the Chrome clean, and for a 4stroke 125 I can get 60 MPH out of it without issues... (And trust me, I aint a small bloke!!)

To top it off, it cost me £1200 brand new from a dealer in Cwmbran. It's due for it's first service about now, and not a single problem has been had with it... All weather riding as well!!

(I must admit though, that sprokets are to be changed during the service just to help it along a bit better!!)

This is the bike (DD125E)... https://www.ajsmotorcycles.co.uk/docs/Raptor/Docs/Frame%20set1.htm

Well before you jump all over my post again.......It has now done 6000 miles.....must be the novelty of being able to go where and when you want to lol.........The quote about changing the oil after 50 miles was to see how much swarf etc there was in it!! I've seen some chinese bikes that have so much crap in them I'm supprised they last at all. As I said this had nowt in it..I also do this with new jap bikes!!

It pulls 70 on the flat according to my car and firebade speedo?? Guess they must both be wrong !! If he sticks his head in the tank it will JUST about hit 75mph..screaming it's nuts off !!

Dont get me wrong the build quality is not the same as the japs......But for a cheap new bike they are worth looking at..After all You will be looking a £700-£800 for a 3+ year old CG125!!

no offence mate but i think one positive report compared with several negative ones tells a different story.

at the end of the day people will buy what they want but the chinese bikes dont seem like a good investment. just check the trade in value at your nearest dealer or the second hand prices online.

Like WelshOne i really liked the look of the AJS regal raptor range and so, when i turned 16 my dad, being the nice bloke he is, bought me one. its now sitting in the shed with no back light, no number plate, rust over all the chrome, faulty neutral light connection, broken speedo and a chain guard thats shaken off and while riding the bolts must have fallen in the road.

Moral of this story...buy a brand you know and trust.

If I bought a one of these chinese 125s for commuting, and it managed to last 3 yrs..ie the duration of not worrying of having to get an MOT, I'd be more than happy Very Happy

Cheap way of getting into biking Thumbs Up

I'd be more than happy in dumping it in a skip if it doestn't pass the MOT after the 3yrs..

I saw one close up today...although the quality isn't up with the likes of the jap bikes, it does look ok for the £895 they are asking on Ebay. Very Happy

£895 for 3 years biking.......cheap as chips! Dance!

mind you, I would probably go over the whole bike from new, and tighten/threadlock nuts and bolts before taking it out.

There is a place in Wigan that imports Jinlun cruisers and will sell them fully loaded with extras for around £1000 new. They give warrenty and offer after sales parts too.

A few of our members have them and they are happy with what they got for their money after 12 months.
