hi, my speedfight started to run out of oil a few days back, anyway, yesterday, the light was flickering every second on and off, and was riding down the street, and suddenly the engine died, so i pulled over, and tried to start, turned off, tried again, still no sucess, the petrol gage wont move like it normally does, or the indicators etc, and the electric start wont work, however, the imobilisor light is still flashing, i cant seem to kickstart it either, so today, after a day of leaving it, i turned the key, and the petrol gage started to move up, and after 2seconds it went down again, any ideas? is my engine ruined?! its the kickstart i dont understand.
cheers all

eh?

"i cant seem to kickstart it either"
The kickstart is jammed?
The kickstart turns the engine, but the engine does not fire?

"the imobilisor light is still flashing"
does it ever stop flashing?
does the starter motor work when the immobiliser light is not flashing?

"the petrol gage wont move like it normally does, or the indicators etc"
So none of the lights on the work at all?

finpos.

The kickstart is jammed?
possibly, but as much as i know, it kicks all the way down, and it did work before, however, i use the elctric start 99% of the time, so im not 100% sure
The kickstart turns the engine, but the engine does not fire?
i dont actully know how i would know, i smell a distinct smell when i kickstart it for a minute or so

"does it ever stop flashing?"
no, the imobilisor is at its standard, once a second or so sequence

"does the starter motor work when the immobiliser light is not flashing?"
as far as i know, suposibly the imobilisor kicks in when someone tries to break into, or fiddles with the electric, or, like i had a problem before, the fuse broke on the battery

"So none of the lights on the work at all?"
it doesnt look like it, normally the indicators, or brake light go on when the engine is not on

MANY thanks

Sounds to me like you've got a bad connection somewhere very near the battery (the battery terminals or the fuse), and this is stopping your bike from getting any electrical power.

The immobiliser has detected this, and has decided it's been attacked so is not allowing the engine to run (either from the kickstart or the starter motor). That's it's job Smile .

The fact that the starter motor won't turn could be due to the general lack of electrical power, or the immobiliser may be deliberately stopping it to protect the bike from being nicked.

If the kickstart is moving, it suggests the engine is ok. The smell is probably just unburnt fuel getting pumped out of the exhaust.

You say you've had a similar problem before?

yes, before, i had a broken fuse, the imobilisor light stopped flashing (indicating that it had kicked in) and i replaced the fuse for it to work fine, im pretty sure the light is supposed to go off when its kicked in, not sure tho, what is why i dont understand why the electrics have maybe got a fault, and also, it stopped while i was traveling, nothing for the electrics to do, thats where im confused, it jus died as i was going, and the electrics dont need to be working for the engine to continue working surely.

On a small bike, sometimes the engine ignition electrics will run independently of the secondary electrics (lights, horn etc.), but that is not always the case. Just depends on how the ignition system is set up - I don't know the answer for one way or the other on your type of bike.

The bigger problem would be the immobiliser deciding something was wrong and deliberately shutting down the engine. I'm sorry, but I still can't tell from your description if the immobiliser is active or not.

Either way, you need to figure out why you have lost electrical power first, it's the one obvious problem that you do have. And it could explain why your starter motor will not run.

maybe the battery is dead? run out? is that likely, that being the fact of i turned it on after 24hours and the dials moved for 5seconds? maybe it was a tenny bit of electric left, although this doesnt explain the fact why it stopped during riding in the first place

It's possible the battery is old and tired, but the sudden failure while riding would seem to indicate a connection problem. The fact that everything has stopped working would point towards something very simple (e.g. loose battery terminal)

good luck!

ah the sf electrics
right then u say theres no indicators
does horn work
if no norm eletrikicy its the stupid joint in the loom.
take off the full front panel.
theres a big taped coverd cable running down the steering column.
its awarked but remove the 2 metal cable wraps that keep the cable fastened and pull the cable out to get a bit room on it.
disconnect battery .
now then carefully cut the tape and look for red wire half way down theres a insulated crimp with 3 or 4 wires crimped into it, give each wire a tug see if it parts company and look for "green" staining on the wire. if it pulls away theres the fault very common on these scoots be it 50 or 100 sf1 or sf2.
dont be tempted to use a scotchlock or anything that crimps the wire far better to cut the wires off the crimp and remake the connections with solder, theres just enough slack to do this.
hope it helps if not tell me what is live and what is dead

I have the same problem, its the starter motor mate. Took it off mine and some of the brushes inside have burnt out. I have another problem though, i am getting no spark from the spark plug but when i try the spark plug on another bike there is a spark. What do you think it could be? the HT lead? the HT coil?

If you could get back to me asap it would be greatly appreciated

sounds like a combination of a flat battery (imobiliser needs some power to work), and probably a brake switch/connection problem which will effect the starter inhibitor,

Is yoour battery bulged out at the sides or low on acid if so to safe to say its fubar.

thats assuming that you don't just need a new piston and ring set hence the cutting out whilst riding!

I from the grenada in the caribbean an im no techncian but for the person with the speedfigther let them check the ignittion module. i had a similar problem ( my peugot 306 just cut of with me) what is happenin is that because the vehicle is in motion ( tryn to kickstart or rollin) the engine sounds like if it is running but its not ur guage will move (evrythin like if the vehicle is wrkin ) but wen the vehicle isnt in motion u wont get no response from the vehicle also u wont get anythin fire in the spark plugs. ignition module sends current to where it has to go (i dont kno). it is located next to the distributor (on my car) dont no bout urs. gope all goes well[/b]
