Tch just when you though it was safe to take out a loan without insurance..

I work at an RAF base on the first line, servicing jets and the associated stuff that goes with it.

Had letters today, stating our jobs were at risk from redundancy, losing 26 of the 40 'lineys' (us who work the line) from the two squadrons.. One of the criteria for losses was 'last in, first out'. Great, that'll be me then. Only been there 13 months and I'm looking at being on my arse again. Great... not..

Will find out in a fortnight for sure.. full of uncertaincy looks like the contractors are making a mess of things again, lots of politics involved but at the end of the day I'm looking for a new job. Dont fancy going back to being a bike mechanic but needs must and all that!

VFR and RGV will go just to keep me afloat by the looks of things!

man... I'm sorry dude. Get your CV out now, and start looking for other work before the job market gets flooded with other people who are laid off the same time you are.

I worked for a company that notorious for layoffs. They'd let people go once every year. I survived two, but third time's the charm. I was nervous and couldn't eat for the entire month leading up to it.

Hope everything works out for the best, but start preparig now for the worst.

I've taken a loan with payment protection and cancelled it a few months later. Perhaps you can do the reverse?

No he can't, payment protection is insurance. Otherwise no one would buy it until they knew they were gonna lose their job.

I met an RAF careers adviser a few months ago, I forgot the figures, but in something like 20years time, the estimated amount of people working in the RAF was shockingly low.
Oh, and try your best to hang on to your bikes, you will be very very sad when they are gone, and then you realise how much they meant to you.

It's now hard to use first in, last out as a criteria for reduncancies legally and once the age discrimination law comes in in October it will be even harder to defend the practice. If they insist on using this get some advice, Acas have a help line.

as for job changes, unfortunately these things happen, you obviously have the skills and should be able to find another job just as interesting,
dont blame the contractors, they are paid to do a job, the thing is (being an ex contractor) they get a lot of grief for doing the job, the whole reason there doing the job in the first place is cos companys got fed up of paying there (fitters for exmple) a full weeks money when all they did was tightedn a few bolts on the monday.

as for the lone thing, I took out bike finace with insurance but to be honest, since the job i was in when i got the bike doesnt exsist and ive been at another job a while now I dont think you loosing your job would make much of a diff as you would probebly have found another one before the insurance kicks in

Being in the Armed Forces like the RAF you dont expect to be made redundant. Its like me in the NHS as a nurse, it seems a secure job until money dries up and jobs are slashed.

It sucks, but try and keep your chin up and start nosing around for a new vocation just in case

cheers guys, well so far I have running a pub as an option or working in an oil refinery for a damn sight more than what I'm on now. Not looking so grim after all for me at least.
