I dont suppose anyone has some zx7r restrictors laying around that they wanna sell for a decent price? or am i going to have to make them. im 21 and doing my accelerated access december so will be able to ride it then without them.
I just dont want to pay 200 odd for something which isnt worth it and i could do my self.
cheers Ben

Dont worry about restrictors, you wont have any problems getting insured and as long as you dont mow down some old granny the police will be none the wiser.

erm whys that? Just because his bike isnt restricted doesnt mean that he's mroe likely to get points than if it was restricted as it will still be capable of law breaking speeds.

LOL , Come on im sure you've ridden at some point breaking the law in some way, Or do you keep a Rule book of UK law beside your bed.

Surely he would lose his license anyway if he got caught?

If the insurance dudes want proof of restriction then you will have to take it to a shop for it doing.

I'm told that only an approved 'workshop' can do it and they MUST inform the DVLA of the restriction...then the DVLA (or the workshop..one of them) give you a certificate which in turn you send a copy to the insurance company.

Also....i aint sure what a restrictor looks like but some goon at work told me they are 'sealed' which wax so if this seal is missing...its easy for the boys in blue to see if it is actually restricted or not (whether you can show a certificate or not)

Did that make sense? 5 tins of beer, 1 1/2 bottles of white wine and still going strong Very Happy ....no work for rest of the week but got a 200 mile ride tomorrow at 10am Confused Sad Crying or Very sad

So your going to do another test in December for like 6 full months?

How many of them months will you ride? Jan,Feb,March? If not is it worth doing another test, expense etc for 3 months. Also if you do the acelerated access, what date will your license show? Just a thought for insurance, 2 year rule on 6 points etc.

I did my test at 32 on a 125 and I waited. Up to you though, someone in MCN did it last week.

No it doesn't make sense, you've posted a load of shit Laughing It doesn't have to be done by a workshop have a certificate. You can easily print out your own certificate after you've fitted them which will mean just as much as the one the workshop gives you. Nobody has to inform the DVLA and they aren't gonna send you a certificate.

They aren't sealed with wax and it isn't easy for the cops to tell you haven't got them in because almost none of them are aware of the 33bhp law. Laughing

Yeh thats right, And as for the restrictor being "sealed" I dont know where the fuck you got that from as all it is, is a metal washer and on the newer bikes just a reprogrammed ECU.

It's not a question of being stopped by the police IMO although they can take your bike away to get it checked if they want, but it's usually too much faff.

It's more a case of if you crash or get crashed into the insurance company are very likely to check it so they don't have to pay out. esp if you kill/injury another person it's the same as being uninsured. So prison, fines and shite food follows. Is it really worth it for waiting 3-8months or your life then enjoy the ZX7 to the full.

My suggestion is to SORN the ZX7 until the summer. Do your accelarated access in december on a training school ER-5 or whatever then get the ZX7 back on the road for March and rock on throughout the summer nice and legally.

That's my 2 cents.

So you'd do the accelerated access for April, May & June.

I wouldn't. I'd leave the restricitons in and take out come 2 years after the 125 test.

There is no legal procedure to restrict a bike, and I suspect that any restriction document sent to the DVLA is filed in the B1N file.

No. That is you first full licence which is revoked back to a provisional if you go over 6 points. Provisional can conventionally have up to 12 points.

All the best

im really intrested in this, so if you have a provisional theoretically with 12 points on it, what happens when you pass your test? does it get revoked straightaway? if so thats gotta be a winner for UK's stupidest law! Laughing

Hi

No, you loose your licence if you get points that results in you having 6 or more points within 2 years of passing your first test. Really strange.

Basically Have 9 point on your licence and do your test and you are fine. Get 1 more point within the 2 years and your licence is revoked.

All the best

Keith
