My first track day is tomorrow. What preparation should i do for it?
Should i take my mobile tool kit and spares etc? Is that OTT?
Once at the track should i stiffen suspension, lower pressures etc?

Cheers.

Track Guide is quite good.

But basically, take a basic tool kit with you, enough to remove fairings if need be.

Also, tape up / remove lights, indicators. Remove mirrors, you dont need them, whats behind you is not important on a track.

I took my tyre pressure down to 30/30.

For starters don't fuck with suspension or tyre pressures. Ride on whatever setup you normally would.

Take enough tools to take off fairings/fix minor stuff. Take lots of electrical tape and cable ties.

Have fun!

You certainly want to be lowering your tyre pressures if the weather is anything like today. They will advise in the morning briefing what pressures they reccommend for the conditions, either that or pop over to the tyre chap.

The tyres will heat up much hotter compared to even spirited road riding.

Other than that there is no real need to do anything but taping up mirrors/speedo etc will help you concentrate.

But as said, take a peek in the FAQ as it's all in there.

And ease your way into the day gradually as you learn the track and get more confident. There always furture days to get faster, don't push yourself on your first outing.

Have fun.

My piggybank has run out for trackdays this year Sad

Jesus Gaz, I hope thats a joke!!! Confused

First thing you do is lower your tyre pressure, even in the briefing they recomend you do that.

You dont want to be riding round on the same pressure you do for road riding. Shocked

Aim for around 35psi in both tyres when hot.

However, as I've mentioned a few times, first race I got a 4th in I had over 50psi (hot) in both tyres and didn't have any massive problems with the bike.

If you're a novice, first trackday in novice. For the first few sessions, I'd doubt you're getting any more heat in your tyres than any spirited twisty ride.

So going out with lower tyre pressures from the off might cause more harm than good.

See my reasoning?

Not really, not to the extent where it will be more harm than good anyway.

Even at your first time being off pace, your still hammering round constantly accerating, braking and turning far more than your average 20 minute ride. There can't be many roads where you are constantly on the go for 20 mins at a time with no straights lasting longer than 10-15 seconds and taken full pace without any regard for breaking speed limits.

Your probably right though and it isn't that critical for your first time out, but if your going to do anything, it's a good idea to get your tyres set up.

i can only be sure on euan.... he was riding a maroon bandit 6 with lights removed and replaced with chequered flag bits. he was in the intermediate group. His gear was all mix and match like a kwak green coloured jacket with a big yamaha logo on it and black trousers. very nice bloke though, took the time to talk to everyone and thank the instructors etc.

Pah, no excuse, 55.1 sec lap on a 35hp SV650 (and I'm sure people go faster than that with less power) Smile.
