1 Concrete floor
1 ground Anchor
1 mains powered drill
1 16mm concrete drill bit

Result?

2 half inch deep holes (need 4 x 90mm deep)
1 face full of dust
1 pair of stinging arms (from the feedback from the drill)


Anyone got tips for drilling into concrete? I need to get the anchor fitted but I'm having no joy drilling into the floor. Even tried pilot holes with a smaller 10mm drill (wall bit) but I just can't get deep enough. the floor seems to be poured concrete on top of god knows what....

Domestic drill won't touch foundation concrete - as you've discovered

I had to hire one of the big sod off things out of a shop to do something similiar, even a SDS type drill I borrowed wasn't tickling it.

Your drill is spinning too fast. You need something like a Hilti TE72 to do the job.

Where are you I could drill them if you are local?

Using the hammer action and not going on full revs, only using about half speed. I'm in Milton Keynes and there's a HSS tool hire place just up the road so I'll pop up and see if they've got anthing that'll do the job I could hire.

I went to a rapid hire place when i fitted my ground anchor (i made them at work...36mm rawl bolt biatch )

I'll get a pic of one of them later, big chunky ass things (made 2)

i hired a SDS maxi drill and a 36mm bit for the week.

£13 for the drill and about £2.50 for the bit and they made mince meat of the concrete

The bolts took some braying in so i think they are pretty much stuck there...but saying that, about 2 2weeks after i fitted it my dad said he was organising a new garage to be put in

I have fitted 3 ground anchors and a door defender into solid concete using a hammer drill and a 16mm masonry bit. Took a long time to get the holes drilled and after doing all that the chuck on the drill is knackered. It can be done, but it takes ages.

both wrists are knackered from a 40mph Mountain bike smash 10+ years ago so I need to be able to get through the floor as quickly as possible. Otherwise I get a ton of pain as all the little bones in my wrists jostle for position.. ..

Mind you, my current drill punched a hole for an electrical cable through the solid brick wall of my house with no problems, chewing through bbricks and steel with just the wall bit.
