The cold weathers coming and its pissing down outside with a near gale force wind. Just looking for some general winter maintenance tips to make sure the bike doesnt give up. Whats best to stop corrosion?

Wash everything every couple of days, particularly fork stanchions, header pipes on exhaust, frame, brake area, rear set assemblies etc... then dry with a chamois whilst running the engine for 5 - 10 minutes or so to dry out bits you've missed.
Give any moving parts a good lubricating, then everything metal a coat of something like FS365, and polish the bodywork with a decent wax.

Once a month or so, its a good idea to remove your bodywork and clean the crap and salty yuck off the hidden areas of frame and engine, and coat them with something protective...

If you clean the forks do you need to lube them again?

Might sounds stupid question but not sure, so thought best to ask.

No, just keep the shiny part of the fork clean, and the seals too. Dont let any grime get up between the seal and the tube Wink

Cheers, all is good now, will give the bike a good clean this weekend as its so dirty that coronaboner wrote clean me on my exhaust.

Fork gaitiors, any moto-x shop will have them and there cheap as a cheap thing..

Personally i use a mix of grease one some parts and WD40 on others, wd40 stuff gets reallyed with each time it gets washed.. a light hoseing after every ride will be the best soloution really though.. and take very good care of your chain because they dont get on with the salt well..

Or do what I do, never clean your bike so the layers of shite build up inturn creating a protective layer from the road salt.

I don't think I've cleaned my bike in about a year and I don't have a problem with corrosion!

Unfortunately my garage is detached from the house and not heated.

My mates got an integral garage and the boiler is kept in there for the house. The jammy git.

I used to have one of those on my Diversion and it was great. I later fitted one to my CBR and it also worked well until I hit a big bump while two up and it popped into the front of the lower fairing locking the steering in a straight line. Not a nice experience.

When it did it a second time on the Hanger Lane gyratory I ripped it off and tossed it.

Good product, just make sure if you have a full fairing that there's enough clearance.

spray on about an hour after riding the heat will cook it on , or just spray all over (cept for brakes) then fire her up and watch all the cook off!.

reapply after rain as it washes off.

One of the benefits of FS365 is that it will not burn on. Sprays like WD40 will, especially on the exhaust. You can spray FS365 all you want onto hot surfaces, the oil has a very high boiling point and just goes super thin which if anything is what you want as it will then flow easily into all the hard to reach areas. What you see steaming and fizzing away is the water content. The medium that allows the oil to flow - FS365's 'flux' if you will. Once this evaporates the oil is left as a thin coating.

Whats more it actually neutralises salt. Additives in the solution chemically react with and turn salt into an inert compound. This is why spraying something like WD40 will not work as although it will protect a clean surface, it will not help a surface already dirty Wink

The real beauty of it though is that it allows you to ride in winter and still only have to wash once a week. If you were to wash/wipe down your bike after every ride you will soon get bored and what's more the bike is no longer a more practical solution than a car Shocked .

Simply spray FS365 onto the main areas that get covered with salt (engine, frame, radiators/coolers/, subframe, exhaust) and they will then be protected from salt corrosion taking place overnight. Only a fine mist is needed and it takes only 30 seconds if that.

With a little bit of practice you can spray onto the fork lowers without getting any onto the brakes. I also spray onto the caliper exteriors and brakes lines to keep them looking like new - BUT you must be entirely confident with your spraying technique to do this as oil and brakes don't mix Exclamation
