Heya.

Theres been a few bike thefts going on round my area. My mates bike was nicked a few weeks ago as well as a few stories in the paper about it.

Im a bit worried about my moped I got sitting in the shed. Its not insured, Taxed. Or anything. Will it be coverd on my house insurance if it was stolen?

Some companies will cover your bikes, but you normally have to tell them you want it included on your policy.

if its in the shed i doubt it, unless the insurance company have been told about it.

afaik, it only the contnts of the house and an attached brick garage, but i might be wrong about all the above Mr. Green

Take the front/ back wheel off and store it elsewhere

Its most likely to be stolen by scalleys, who willwant it to destroy on a railway sideings, if it wont move, they wont steal it..

most insurance companies will not cover motorcycles.

HOWEVER

some will cover mopeds up to 50cc. for exact terms and conditions phone your home insurer (or your parents)

Takeing the wheels off seems like the best idea. Take them in the house and shove them under your bed or in a cupboard somewhere.

that would seem the best course of action to me. for a ped, it'll only be chavs looking for a free laugh that'd nick it. there'd be no sense taking a ped with no wheels.

Some policies cover sheds/out buildings e.g mine has a max £500 cover so what evers nicked they will pay nomore than that, best thing is do what the others say, remover the wheels or tie a hand grenade to the latch Twisted Evil

Either the wheels or the handlebar clamps. Ever tried moving a motorcycle without handlebars? It is not easy.

That said, some neds will nick anything. They took my C90 which had no engine in and set it on fire.

I checked with my house insurance when I brought my bike back and SORN'd it. They don't cover it.

Fantastic photo.

I dont really want to take the wheels off, as I dont really have enough room in my shed for a bike that will need two people to move it just so you can get to a cuboard behind it or somthing. And I dont wonna leave it outside under a cover as it will probably be there all winter.

I rember when my mountin bike got knicked, the insurance paid for that, and that was outside shops miles from my house. But I was just wondering if it would work the same for a motorbike.

I mean, Its not classed as road legal, so it should only be used on private land ( if used at all ) , so it works out to be the same as a Motocross bike someone keeps for fun.

Thanks for the advice guys.

what you could do is take the wheel spindle out with associated washers e.t.c. when you need to move it take that outside with you, loosely fit it, take it off again when your done.. or like stinkwheel suggested with the steering clamp, take that indoors..

Trouble is the will not try to start it till its way away from your house, when they find they can't its gets mashed or set on fire.. which is why it needs to by physicaly immobilised, even takeing the carbs off it would still get wheeled somewhere and then destroyed Thumbs Down

(a mate had his scooter nicked 2days before his girlfriend who it was for got her provisional Rolling Eyes its not unrideable after they recovered it 20meters from their house)

I have been out of the insurance industry for some time now. I provided quite a bit ot theft only insurance whilst a vehicle was temporary laid up in a house garage. The cover was reinstalled when put on the road.
