Hi folks, just wondering really as I have not found much out on the net..

Is it possible to buy an underseat kit for a zzr E model that neatens the whole back end up a little? I would like to get a smaller number plate and jack up the back end a little I think but dont want the standard undertray showing.

Obviously this is a different bike but it would be nice to get something like this:

https://www.redracingparts.com/images/sottosellazx6r.jpg

Also have any of you jacked up the back end on a zzr600? I read it can make the front end feel a little more responsive and improve the general handling although I dont know just how accurate this is, I do like the idea of a slightly cocked tail though!

cheers

A mate at work jacked up the rear on his and he claims it made the bike far more responsive. Might give it a go at the weekend. need to stiffen up the rear anyway.

by jacking up the rear you will, shorten the wheelbase and make the angles of the steering steeper, so it will turn in faster etc, but this will make it more sensitive and flighty, make it more prone 2 tank slappers etc.

Jacking up the rear is something that I want to do in the not to distant future, dog bone extensions costing less than £20 aint to bad for a mod that can drastically change the way the bike handles.

I dont think I will mind it being a bit more flighty too much if it stiffens up the rear suspension a tad, I took my first pillion out today and it felt very soft. I too found the dogbone mod so I think I will give it a whirl shortly - by the way is it a big or involved job? I am only just getting into what everything on the bike does..

cheers

Piece of piss Wink

The dog bones are connected to the swing arm and bottom of the shock mount by 2 bolts, simply remove these and pop in the new dog bones.

Its a 15 minute job with a spanner and socket once the rear of the bike is supported ie on a paddock stand

Bargain!!!

I will have a whirl at that then I think...

In answer to your question too about how soft it is, IMO it is very soft - very comfortable mind but I think I need to stiffen up the front end and definately could do with a bit more bite on the back.

cheers

That website was annoying me last night so I shopped else where and bought some off of ebay for £20.

They are 157mm dog bones so should be a nice little lift Wink

As long as the rear wheel is off of the ground, my FZR has no centre stand so it will be on axle stands, a centre stand should be just fine.

The 157mm dog bone extensions (from a FZR1000) arrived and I've been itching for the last few days to fit them and see what difference it makes to the stature and feel of the bike. The latter will have to wait for a few more days yet.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/fzr600_079.jpg

Tools required:

Arrow 14m spanner
Arrow 5/8 spanner
Arrow Hammer
Arrow A little Duckhams grease
Arrow Locktight

Time:

Arrow 30 minutes

Level of difficulty:

Arrow Piece of piss

When ordering the new parts I was unsure on the size of the orginal FZR600 dog bones, they are 10-12mm longer, so how this will translate to the final ride height of the rear will be Thinking

BEFORE
https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/fzr600_078.jpg

The 2 retaining bolts were easily removed except for the rear hanger getting in the way a little, so this came off to make life a little less frustrating.

When both bolts are removed the rear will pivot and shift a little from the frame. You will need to press down (one handed is enough pressure) on the seat pan / rear subframe to extend this pivot allowing the new, longer bones to be lined up with the swing arm mount.

Once the bolts are both pushed through, the washers and nut are refitted with a little red Locktight to stop vibrations from loosening them too much.

AFTER
https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/fzr600_080.jpg

Jobs a good 'un Wink Thumbs Up

It really is a piss easy job to do, good luck and lets see the before and after pics to see the overall effect.

Would nt suprise me if there were different wheels to the bike, a few things have been this way so far Rolling Eyes Most of the older bikes have a generic looking 3 spoke wheel dont they so not really sure.

just put bike on the side stand, put a bottle jack or trolley jack under opposite side under a block of wood and jack up till wheel is off deck...mack sure to slacken all the mount bolts on the tie rods before raising the bike ..it makes it a bit safer and YES it is a 10 min job!!!!!! Laughing

im still coming up with nothing regarding the tail section/undertray...

I have seen others where people have replaced the subframe with a different model but this is a little too extreme for my skill level at this time, any simple bolt/screw on sports tails I could look at or tails of other similar bikes? if so which ones?

cheers

You can fit alternative bike rear plastics onto the existing frame or change the rear section completely and start from scratch.

The common one for the FZR is an R1 or R6 tail, the only thing is that you have to mod the tank and fairings too, so a little involved, but looks the nuts.

Have a look for a ZX7R or ZX9R, they may have units that you may be able to use, or look at track day rear units. With these you will have to drill and cut for the brake lights.

It looks like www.1tail.com may do a ZX6R unit to fit a ZZR Thinking

Something that I failed to realise, so was a little shocked when the front and rear pivoted against each other as I was nt expecting it to move as much as it did Shocked

so far so good, I have chopped off the rear mudguard which looked pants and am in the process of finding a smaller number plate that I can fabricate a mount for - out of interest what sizes are all your plates? I am assuming very few of you run the full size standard plates..

I need to know what I could possibly get away with.
