Nice little suprise for me...

The speedo on my RS125 is cable driven, there is a small metal clip which slides into the front wheel and spins with it.

The clip itself has snapped (I'll either need to get hold of one or fabricate one, but i'm not really any good at things like that... but whats worse is that the part of the wheel it fits into has worn... the sides of the "hole" it fits into have been shaven away, effectively allowing the speedo clip thingymabob to just pass through it, instead of sitting inside.

I'll get some pictures if it's a bad explanation.

So, how could I fix this? Weld some walls back in there?

Could always just leave it be, depends if you plan to sell it on at a decent price. If not, use a bicycle speedo temporarily until a wheel comes up on the cheap.

Hay, mines driven the same, but my wheel has those small notches all the way round for the blade to fit into off the speedo drive.

Ive attached the front wheel assay, its number 28 and fits into the notches in the part to the right of 24 ...

There should be more thn=an one notch ...

If not, just bodge it, there's plenty of possibilities ...

I haven't been able to tell me speed since I've owned the bike. Speedo has never worked.

Doesn't bother me TBH.

Are you sure the "part of the wheel it fits into" is actually part of the wheel and not a seperate bit that could be drifted out and replaced?

Well, just went out and got some pictures, and also checked to see wether Stinkwheel's thought might be a possibility but on closer inspection it's not happening.

So, with these, what do you reckon my first port of call should be?

In all honesty. That looks like a case of near terminal neglect. Speedo drives are supposed to be oiled/greased once in a while you know.

I can't see the exact damage but it looks like you are missing some bits of the actual wheel hub casting (broken/.corroded off).

Now, the bits of the wheel that have worn/corroded away aren't structural (the wheel sits on the bearings). I reckon BLUEX5s suggestion is favourite, build up the missing bit with chemical metal. The speedo drive doesn't see a lot of force (you can easily spin it with your finger) so it should hold.

I would recommend using a product called "JB Weld". It's probably the best one on the market.

If you are a bit more technically minded, you could build it up with a product called 'lumiweld' which is a low melting point, aluminium solder then shape it to suit using a burr. This would be tricky

its a seperate unit and not part of the wheel???

Its the hole in the Wheel that's also broken hmmmnz ...

A new drive unit is needed me thinks, but the hole for the stud to sit on the wheel had also corroded.

But a bit of Chem. Metal stuff ... should be a good enough bodge ...

Okay, i've chemical metald the whole thing together....

Because the actual pin that sits inside snapped I was simply left with a vertical stub that just sits parallel with the wheel... I chemed the whole thing to the hole and covered it so it's one big piece.

It worked this morning, speedo working again fine... I just can't help but think it's only going to last a day or so.

You underestimate the hard-core-ness of chemical metal.
