Hello all,

I've found that my head lights are just insufficient-they're crap mainly. Not bright enough, even with an illegal SuperXenon SupperBrilliance WillCostMoreThanNewBike bulb in there. Im wanting to add a pair of spots to my engine bars, finding a decent bracket will be a pain in the proverbial-which Im none to worried about (was thinking a set of forkleg headlight brackets-or similar, open to suggestions here).

I've had a look down my local halfrauds (3 of em) and they aint got anything that caught my eye, apart from some I've seen on ebay for a damned lot cheaper, which are here.

But, Ive also been considering theseand these.

I know I will have to relay the lights-otherwise it'd melt the loom (although I had no problems on my Maruader). But is there anything that I've left out?

I'd check your alternator is capable of giving you an extra 110 watts without going meltdown first off.

In my experience, any spotlamps that take those shitty halogen bulbs with the flying lead on them are crap.

Two makes to look out for if you want a quality spotlamp. Cibie and Hella.

They aren't cheap though but you sometimes get lucky on ebay Note, there are a lot of cheap "cibie style" spots on there, they are not proper ones. Genuine Cibie lenses and reflectors are very high quality, I had twin 7" Cibie projector spots on my MZ supermoto giving 185w of main beam. It was like riding in daylight.

Good point about the alternator-Ill go a digging through my Haynes to see if its got enough beef.

As for Cibie and Hellas I cant seem to find anything in the <5" size range. Know of somewhere I can get these new-at a decent price mind, as eBay doesnt turn anything up.

Shaggy-Frankly it looks like a nice idea, but I really and truely havnt got that ammount of effort. Laughing

As I understand it, Haze, all Xenon bulbs are illegal unless they are self leveling. Which means that they'll be used in ignorance for the most part.

I don't know if the bulbs are illegal or is it not the amount of light they produce when fitted in your lamp.

I was informed that the bulbs are used in older lamps to improve visible light when the reflector is a bit shabby.

Anyway.

I have the bulbs from Piaf in my bike and car.
The light from them in he bike is brill.
But my mates say it looks like you do not have any light on in daylight.

To do with colour temp etc.

about £20 pound a pop buty then then plop right in and no wirin shit to deal with.

those lights will do bog-all on a motorcycle.. they might be fine for pootling along at 15mph on a bicycle, but you need to see a helluva lot further when travelling at 4 - 5 times the speed.

I'm thinking about fitting HID lights to the FJR.. either as a replacement, or additional light.. not sure which way yet

HID lights are £££ you need a tranformer in all that jazz.

I looked at that then thought before lashing out half a months wages on HID I'd try those Piaf Lamps.
Honestly works fine for me and I regulary drive roon toon and country in the dark.

BTW feef,

Was that the Speed of Light per-chance? Laughing

still will be poor, relative to bike/road specific lights, as it's an unfocussed cone of light, going up and out as well as down onto the road.

Bike lights use lenses and reflectors to create a relatively flat beam that extends to the approximate width of the road at, or around, where the beam loses it's visibility.

...which means you loose the beam when you lean over in a bend.

So you need Spots to fill in the gaps maybe.

Ok, if you want a spot instead of flood, 50W and 10 degree or 75W and 14 degree. Or 50/24 or 75/38. More than useable.
