Any opinions on the ducati monster,(dark)??????

cracking little bikes..

handle supremely well.. not the most powerful engine, but plenty quick for 80-90mph.. on an unfaired bike that's enough Very Happy

can pick up a '99 model or thereabouts for a nadge over a grand.

I've got two monsters, a 900 on the road and a 600 that I race.

First, the 600 is a brilliant bike, fantastic handling (the frame is taken directly from the WSB winning 888 superbikes) and a nice torquey engine with lots of grunt but not enough power to catch you out. This makes it a really user friendly bike, you can take tremendous liberties with it and it won't bite back.
As far as reliability goes, they suffer very few problems. You need to make sure it's serviced, it should have it's belts changed at least every 12,000 miles / 2 years, and valve clearances should be checked ideally every 6,000 miles. Don't trust your local bike shop to do this, you want someone used to Ducatis. Other than that it's oil and filter every 6000 miles (many owners do this every 3000) and get out there and ride it!
Parts are cheap from a main dealer should you need them, most maintenance is easy DIY.
