Bar muffs are good, keep your hands warm and dry. If you go too fast they can press down on your fingers but you can reduce this by adjusting the angle they sit at carefully. They also stop your gloves getting soaked, which heated grips don't do. Unfortunately they can be too bulky for some sportsbikes and foul the front fairing.
Heated grips are worthwhile, but the right grip is usually hotter than the left because it's fixed to a b=plastic tube which insulates it from the bar. The cheapy ones are ok-ish but the 3-position control ones can get bloody hot on max.
Someone told me the best heated grips he ever used were Harley Davidson ones, but they were pricey. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

With bar muffs you can use summer gloves rather than winter gauntlets. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

ok. so far we have;
heated grips just warm yer palms - users reckon fingertips still get numb + your hands still get soaked.
bar muffs - look gay, big and bulky, can be a bit of a faff to get used to.
So - what about these;
Sticking a pair of Barkbuster VPS handguards (motocross) color coded to your bike with the adaptor kit for your bars.
I like the look of these a lot, a dispatch rider on another forum reckons he used to fit similair motocross to his bikes all the time.
These DO NOT look gay.

Got a BM GS with heated grips as standard, always use my summer gloves they are that good. They also have two settings which is a bonus.
The GS also has hand protectors which compliment the crips as they (as mentioned above) cut the wind chill right out.
I did try Muffs as well, but took them off as my hands were too hot!! Plus Iit feels almost like your hands are tied to the bars and you have to plan ahead to do the simplest thing like opening your visor. You have to remember to let go of grip, pull hand out of muff, open visor, push hand back into muff, grab grip. Instead of just ..... well ..... opening your visor. Sounds easy but try doing it quick if you need to.
Muffs can push your levers back the faster you go, so you may find your clutch slipping or your front brake being applied, when you don't want them to.
Simple cure is....to position them as you want them with ample clearance of levers. Take screw out of bar end weight, poke it through side off muff and tighten it up back into the end weight trapping the muff and stopping any movement.
Oh and dont position the open end upwards as if it rains it gets full of water, not nice. ____________________ Andy Sez....

question on heated grips
is it possible to have them just pushed on? i.e no glue
its just that id want to be able to remove them come summer, but i dont really fancy having them move about while riding if you HAVE to glue them.
and as far as taking old ones off is cutting nessicary? or will they just slide off too?
thanks guys

I'd be interested in a set of those at £45, I think that cheapest I've seen them is in the £50's. I bought the wrap-around ones last year because I only wanted to use them for 2 days on someone else's bike. They are far from ideal though. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
