I am not sure if I want to learn to ride or not… pros at the moment outrun the cons by miles but the cons are pretty big!
I’ve been on the back of bikes and been round them, but my dear parents are not exactly the biggest fans of bikes in any form! So… I drive but I’ve recently found that sitting in traffic jams on the way to work that I have to watch bikes going past every few minuets; they also get free parking- I am paying £3.10 for my car!!
Major pro is that I loved being on the back of a bike…and have recently found myself in the area of bike mags in Smith’s. Shall I take the chance and go for it… I am undecided... i mean i could give it a go, maybe!?

Get your CBT done and take it from there. By posting on a biker's forum you already know what the overwhelming answer will be so it sounds like you have already made your mind up.
Get on the phone, book your CBT and see how you like it |

A CBT is around 90 quid.... It gives you a couple of years to see if really enjoy riding (which i would bet money money on as being so) and then you can either go back to a car (with all the high insurance) or do your bike test and see how you move on from there!
I'm been biking two years in December and bout to take my test and move on to bigger bikes and no L's ____________________ Dave

bikes are only as dangerous as you make them. exactly the same could be said for driving.
ride the bike properly, sensibly and carefully and you will have no problems.
yeah, get a ybr tho - they look a bit better than the cg and still have the same fuel consumption ____________________

hi willow
i passed my cbt in sep, i have never been on the road before on a bike but wow i loved it,
the best thing you could do is take your cbt, and just that day is well worth it
that will be enough to make your mind up.
enjoy |

I don't know how old you are, but this can be an important factor and shouldn't be overlooked (especially if you are younger and still live with them). If you get the parents on-side, things run a lot more smoothly.
This can influence your choice in bikes for one thing. You turn up on a race replica, they will immediately assosciate it with "those nutters who go screaming past my car at the weekend".
Now, consider the reaction if you turned up with a nice, non-threatning stepthrough? Doing your bit for global warming, good financial sense, cutting down on traffic congestion. Infinately more practical than a car for the daily commute. They don't want to hear about how good the corners are, how you nailed this road and how you were filtering liker a loon.
A year spent riding round on a stepthru can pay dividends. They get used to the idea of you being on two wheels and not dropping dead on the first trip out. Then you can begin to broach the subject of getting a 'proper bike'. They are more stable, you have more road presence, brakes are better, better able to keep up with traffic etc.
Before they know it, they are subbing you money to buy your first sports bike, and it seems like it was their idea.
Honda make a couple of good stepthroughs. There is the C90 which is the worlds transport of choice and the newer version, the innova which is a 125 and has half-decent brakes and suspension. These have several advantages over some of the others in that they have big wheels, proper footpegs, brakes in the 'proper' place (ie. rear brake under your foot) and they have gears, no clutch mind. Pretty much the ultimate urban commuter tool. |

Do it willow, you know you want to!
I have been waiting 17 years to get the courage to do it and now I regret not doing it earlier!
Riff
P.s. I am getting 80 mpg out of my ride, take a look! Yes it is a 125 as well ____________________ Of the things in life I have lost, it is my mind I miss the most!
