Right, was thinking about what bike to get next.
Found I can get fully comp on a 2002 R6 for 800quid .
Current bike is a Bandit 400 and is falling to pieces (either that or will soon explode) so I plan on getting rid of it soon.
Money isn't an issue really, but I don't want to spend a years wages on a bike!
Alot of people on here Have SV's and was just wondering what people thought?
I'll have a search through the forum in a bit but I just want to see if it's worth getting an SV, or something else, or just getting an R6?
That was probably a nonsensical post but whatever . |

Well you've managed to pick 2 bikes at opposite ends of the spectrum.
I'd be inclined to agree with colin in saying go for something like a thunderpussy. ____________________ If you dont like the way that I ride.......Stop trying to keep up!!! |

Hey, I had to be awkward too ya know .
I'd get an R6 as it's quite a good quote for me compared to everything else!
A Bandit 12 only costed a bit more than that too.
Meh, so confused |

the people ive met with the sv650 all wished they had bought the sv1000
why not go for something more original a trx850 or something like that, every man and his dog has an r6 (nothing wrong with an r6, they go like stink and seem reasonably reliable)
just my opinion of course ____________________ the humans are dead

If you are only on a Bandit 400, I would not advise a Bandit 12 yet. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Ive had both an inline 4 600 sports (CBR) and an SV650s.
For a kick off the two are completely different to ride. The SV revs lower, pulls more lower down and has a lot of engine breaking. If your after doing ton-up speeds this isnt the sort of bike you will enjoy. The handling is ok but the suspension is basic and unadjustable. The engine sounds awesome with an aftermarket can and you will fall in love with the way it works through the gears. It can be jerky at low revs and a pain in the arse sometimes when trying to go slow around town. Having said that the riding position is comfortable (considering my bad back).
A 100bhp 600cc is a very different machine. It loves to rev and demands a hiding to get the best out of the engine - keeping the revs high is a must. The suspension is fully adjustable at both ends, which is handy if you dont happen to be a little jap guy. The top end power is a pleasure and you will be pushing licence losing/jail baiting speeds with relative ease, especially in comparison to a 400 bandit.
The R6 will have cost upwards of 5.5k brand new I would have imagined, my brand new K6 SVS cost me just over 4k. The build quality in my opinion is beter than suzuki used to muster but I have made the decision not to run it through winter for fear of it disintegrating. All the parts are budget (vaulue for the price but not comperable to more expensive bikes) but there some nice touches that you wouldnt expect.
If you are wanting a cheap all rounder then you would be happy with an SV, if you want to go blasting about then choose the R6. I would personally look further than the R6 for a 600cc, there are plenty to choose from!
On another note, to the sheep dipping generalisiers, I do not wish I had bought the 1000cc ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

Adam, the price difference is marginal between them, and the R6 is a lot more bike for the money. A lot more effort went into designing and developing the R6, and it has better suspension lighter this that and owt.
Thundercat is too old a design now.
If the insurance is similar for Sv and R6 then then I'd pick the yam thats only if you want a bigger bike for performance though?
Ask Louise to show you her's sometime, she goes to MandP's a lot, it always keeps up
There's always the TRX I keep telling everyone to buy as I want to see what their like ____________________ TL1000s, KDX200 |

Thanks for the replies, all.
After having a think, I don't want to be doing license losing speeds as I see no need for it (unless the occasional blast ).
Seems an SV is like an entry level bike then?
Hmm..
I like the sound of V-twins (I saw one the other day while waiting for a bus and it sounded very nice ).
How much of a step up would an SV be compared to my 400?
I know the R6 would be a big gap, but would it be wise to buy an SV and ride that around for a while until insurance prices drop? Or should I just go out and get an R6 as the insurance prices aren't much different between them?
So many questions |
