 |
|
i have to ask partly due to debating with my dad, but also a few comments on here, does the amount of road tax you pay give you certain entitlement to road amount and usage legally or morally?
e.g, does a 50cc moped have the right to use the part of road with the yellow/white line on and a car whichever part it wants?
all in accordance within rules of the highway code of course ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

We have more right - we can filter. the tax is lower because bikes are generally used less, and are lighter, so therefore contribute less to road wear. Having said that, a 30 mph crash between two cars will result in a quick hospital checkup followed by a sending home. A 30mph crash between a car and a bike can result in death and/ or serious injury, wasting more NHS money.
Anyhoo, we all have the same rights. Except horse riders, tractor drivers and cyclists of course...
Awaits abuse....

Its unclear in that bikes use all the width of the road and quite often I ride on the white lines
also a bike all things being legal is supposed to take up the same space as a car , ie 2-3 seconds
from the front with the vehicle behind @ 2-3 seconds per +10mph over 30, reality is different cus I
can fit between cars and in all the iffy spaces.
also there is the concept of pressure,
In that my bike may well weigh 250 kilos with me on the back , but you also have to consider that
my contact patch is less than a size 6 shoe ,
while a car may well weigh 5 times more say 1250 kilos , but ONE of his wheels has a greater contact
patch than both of mine , such that the pressure on the ground is somewhat less = poss ;ess wear
I remember when I replaced the tyres on MY Mazda 323 which my sister has more or less stolen from me
with a loose tyre in the wet , the mark the car tyre made was greater than the mark of both my bike tyres
on the NTV600 at the time.
just to complicate things further , only one of our wheels acts as a drive wheel, while cars it is two or
four. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

The highways have equal use by all vehicles, as long as not stated otherwise on the road ie: bus lanes, Maximum weight restrictions etc
The tax is a duty, and not subscription to use the road. You pay tax to allow your vehicle use of the road. A cyclist has every right to use the road but isn't taxed as the impact they have on the road is seem as minimal. It could be argued that the tax that person pays in VAT, and Income tax etc is enough.
I don't think that morality comes into it! ____________________ Current Bikes - Kawasaki ZX-6R (636) | BMW G650GS |

I was on the understanding that tax class is based on the amount of emissions your vehicle gives out?
IE A larger engine will (generally) give out more harmful emissions than a smaller engine, hence they get taxed more to lower their appeal.
So... Looking at it that way, morally we have the high ground as we're protecting the environment ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600
