 Posted: 14:28 - 13 Nov 2006 Post subject: Mancunian way on L Plates???? |
 |
|
Hi all,
this is probbly a really stupid post so please forgive my ignorance before shooting me down in flames
ok - ive been riding back from work on the mancunian way (A57 i think) for the past couple o months since passing my CBT.
I usually go into work a different way cos its a little easier in the morning rush hour.
Recently my bike broke, and hence aint been riding, but over the weekend i got a taxi that took me the way i would ride into work if i went on the manc way, and noticed that the big A57 sign was actually in blue with a big motorway bridge symbol on it and the road is actually signed as A57(M).
Now from my car theory test i did 12 month ago (not got round to my bike one yet) i was under the imression that all motorways were M roads, not A roads.
Ive not had any law related problems yet and seen quite a few coppers on there when ive had my l plates on and nothings been done, but after seeing that sign over the weekend im a little concerned.
So is the mancunian way a motorway or an A road and am i ok to drive on it with my L plates?
Thanks
Gaz. ____________________ I seem to have misplaced my pants...................

There is something very similar here in Cardiff, we have the A48, which eventually becomes the A48 (M), then eventually the M4 :p
I wouldn't worry about it, the road is simply heading towards a motorway, you're not under motorway legislation at the time so you're not doing anything wrong ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600

If you see blue signs it's a no go!
I work at the University of Manchester and quite often use Mancunian way in the car, I've come so close to just auto-piloting myself onto there on my little 125! ____________________ Current Bikes - Kawasaki ZX-6R (636) | BMW G650GS |

I have to travel on the A3 which then turns into A3 (M)
I thought I was allowed on this as it still is an A road untill the signs go blue (M)
Ive been riding on it for months.
Its an absoult buger, as the part to my house is only a mile long yet it got turned in to a (M)

Yeah i work on, dale st in town so its really convienent for getting home on. Shame ill have to use the longer route now.
I guess ill probably just miss the chance to give my bike a bit of a rev and let some steam off after work really
At least ill miss filtering through the mile long queue for the motorway though ____________________ I seem to have misplaced my pants................... |

You are allowed on it so long as it's still just the A3. I think after the Horndean turn off southbound it's an (M) if I remember right.
Used to use it all the time when I had my 125. ____________________ Photos and that |

The A5 approaching the M54 toward Shrewsbury clearly shows the last exit before the road becomes motorway and directs all non-motorway traffic off the road at that point.
You'd assume that there should be something similar for the Mancunian way... maybe a letter to the local transport agency asking for clarification would be worthwhile? ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!
