welcome, you can pick restrictors up from, you order them through your local dealer.

https://www.fiinternational.com/

they do most bikes, just out of curiosity what bhp does yours put out as standard?

or you could get the size of the plates and make your own or make a throttle stop and put it on a dyno, most will accept that.

on the other hand most companys dont ask for this as barbra on the end of the fone doesnt know it has to be restricted.

Cheers, aye I took out insurance and they didn't ask for it, but they've phoned me tonight just to make sure its restricted, which it is of course, Cool , they don't want proof or anything, I just don't fancy getting banned or whatever for riding without correct insurance etc Thumbs Up

cheers anyway.

Oh yeah, it puts out 53 BHP, how does a restrictor affect torque? as I don't mind the reduced top speed, but the pulling power reduction may annoy me Neutral

Just been reading through it, whats this nonsense about having to get a registered place to fit it, IE. more money in their pocket Rolling Eyes . I know you get a certificate, but thats not a legal document anyway so what does it matter, as long as your vehical is restricted Wink

Load of bollocks if you ask me Evil or Very Mad

Fiinternational play on the people being uninformed.

Your bike simply has to be restricted. How doesn't matter.
Sadly the fiinternational certificates are regarded as the standard, although they are certainly not law.

Just get a set (second hand, or make them) then get a dyno printout to proove the power.

All is then good.

Power is torque x rpm. Effectively the restricted bike is just like not opening the throttle fully.

All the best

So I can't actually buy the kit from them and then fit it myself, I have to make an order and it gets sent to a fitting centre Rolling Eyes , thing is where would I get the dimensions to make one up? Anyone done this?

Thing is how would an insurance company make sure its restricted, they just have to take your word for it or can they legally come and examine it Confused

Uh oh, you just questioned Keith....

And I must say, he's right. What bike are you on? I'll assume a sports 400/commuter parallel twin due to your bhp figures.

Dimensions from any other bike with similar cylinder layout will be fine, just find someone that's removed some, and get them to measure them.

The washers restrict the amount of mixture getting into the engine, much the same way as having the carb slide half closed, much the same was as only using half throttle.

Yeah I just edited as I realised what I was trying to explain was utter bollocks Cool , I'm tired and just out of three hours of calculus Mad .

Its a 1993 CB400 superfour Thumbs Up . How can they prove you've got one though, can the police literally take your bike off you and test it or take it apart?

Funny thing is the bloke I bought it froms dad was a traffic cop in the local area Wink and he didn' evan mention it lol.

They can take it from you and dyno it and/or take it apart.

I suspect some kind of warrant is needed though. Bit hazy on the facts, although close to me the local police rented a dyno and pulled tons of 125s and mopeds, chucked em on the dyno, and wouldn't let them back on the road if they exceeded what they should.

I know 1 person that got done for no restrictors, but he admitted it when a copper asked him. I also know someone, let's call him Bazdaman, he had a bad accident with no restrictors, police, ambulances the whole caboodle, never mentioned once.

Hi

Think they can demand to test it, but you can demand that the test is done at a later time / date of your convenience (within reason).

Whether they have the facility to test the bike is another question.

All the best

Keith

I know, not naming names, but a mate of mine has an A2 licence and in the past year and a half or so he's had, among others, a GSX-R600 and a ZXR750. I was thinking, I'll buy the kit and fit it if needed, which is at all times, of course Mr. Green Karma

Make a post, ask someone to scan/measure theirs. I used to have the dimensions around, I'm almost certain they'll have been lost now.

Search the forum aswell, I think it may have been done before.

Then all you need is to find some washers the right size to fit in your inlet rubbers (the bit of rubber on the other side of your carbs) and drill a hole with the right size area.

(they're oval on the proper restrictors, but they don't need to be, that's just for them to be arsy).
