Came off tonight....

Hey all i can off tonight and after just 3 weeks and 2 days of having the bike. and to be honest, it really wasnt my fault. I will run it with you so you know what happened.


1. came to a set of lights, options are to go straight on or turn right. Decided to turn right and pulled up behind two cars.

2. lights went green, two cars and me pulled away, and went into the corner at about 15 miles per hour.

3. about 7 metres after the right turn there is a left turn into a shopping place, has a chippy, spar etc.

4. the first car decided at the last minute that he would turn left, didnt indicate, broke hard, which caused the car beind it to slam its brake on and skid.

5. Which left half me way throught the turn, two stopped cars and only a fer metres away from the car infront.

6. i had two options, get the bike upright and go straight into the back of the car infront, which would probably have sent me flying, or i could brake and put the bike onto its side, which i did.

7. looking back now im glad i put the bike down onto the ground, going into the back of the car would have cost me alot both health wise and insurance wise.


put the bike onto its side, about 120kg onto my right leg, which hurt! i got back on the bike, rode it home, then had my mum take me to the hospital for a checkup, i really was in alot of pain, but i think ive done well, got abit of soft tissue damage on my right hip, doc said it would take 2 weeks to heal, then got a few grazes but no real damage.

Im glad i wasnt going any fastewr or i wouldnt have had any time to think....



bike got off pretty light i think, damaged my front mud guard slightly but i think i can fill it in and make it look brand new.

damaged my cowl and speedo dials - all needs replacing i think.

scuffed my right indicator

Scuffed alot of the rim around my light. have seen some go on ebay so i will buy one asap.

scraped a 1cm squared patch off my beautiful chrome exhaust. Its underneath and you cant see it any way...


so pretty much minimal damage. both me and the bike could have been alot worse off if i went into the back of the car!

just glad someone wasnt behind me otherwise i could have been run over.......


here are a few pics f the bike. they are in the dark and i will try and get some more tomorrow. if anyone has any ideas about how i can repair the damage i would love to know.

Hey mate.

Sorry to hear about the off, glad you're ok.

Personally I would avoid replacing the clocks, can you try polishing it out with some wet and dry?

What do you think you could've done to avoid the accident?

yeah im gonna try to polish out the mud guard and the exhaust, but the cowl needs replacing, its bent to the right and it makes it hard to put the ignition key in.

to avoid the accident? to be honest i dont think there was a great deal i could do. it was either the road or the car. simple choice to me.

Well, good on ya for making what sounds like a very wise decision.

Glad your alright, broke my leg just a month ago from my bike falling on it in a smash.

yeah. the thing that annoyed me was the first car - he just drove off, leaving me in the middle of the road. nice and considerate for you hey. didnt get any details, no numberplates or anything. he was gone by the time i had got up. b*stard

ouch soulds like a bad crash, didnt break anything just got loads of bruising around my hip. my leg took most of the damage.....im glad i drink milk

i really think i was lucky this time. dont know how lucky i will be in the future tho.

well, yeah sort of. i had only just pulled away from the halt of the junction. i never get up car's arses, and there is bound to never be alot of space.

oh trust me i will learn from it. dont know what i could have done to avoid the situation all together tho.

Sorry to hear about your fall. Glad you aint that badly hurt!


A "MATE" crashed my YBR few months back (nice of him ) -- at around 15mph, but he hit the kurb after going over leaves!

Did abit of fork damage (sorted with help of a couple friends), handlebars, mudguard, and finally the footpeg got bent slightly!

I had damage to the front area like yours (headlight stratches, etc.) the clock casing only needed replacing (pretty cheap), I think the most expensive part was the mudguard (so in end i didn't replace it)


I bet the 2 metal 'catches' that hold the speedo / rev counter are slightly bent out, that an easy job to get em straight.

I still have the bent handle bars ( is that dangerous???) They aint that badly out (bout 2cm)

You can tell tho. as when i ride at night in a straight line the headlight is always pointing to the left (a couple feet out)

yeah i need to get the casing off and take a look, i think the catches will need to be bent back into position, then refit the spedo and rv counter etc, then the cowling will need replacing, bout 7 quit for that job. £20 for the light rim but ive seen them cheaper on ebay.

how much was the mud guard to replace?

It was pricy, In end i just got black plumers tape and made it look 'neat'

I saw one on Ebay for 20 quid, but at the time decided that it looked fine with tape on it!

But i think the mudguard from a dealer was over £30 I remember them being over the top on the price

Wait till it gets nearer to the time of selling the bike... You COULD (hopefully not) come off again and do same again.


Get a new one by all means but i wouyld be careful it might mean you could end up with a second mudguard broke in a couple months!

yeah thats the plan mate. if i can but it with my xms money or summat, then replace it when i come to selling it, it will be worth it.


i fear that if i leave it, yam might not have the parts for it, like my clock casing - its gonna be 2 weeks before i get it replaced

hey all

just went into my local yam dealer so they could have a good look over the bike. it seems more damage has been done than meets the eye. the whole cockpit needs replacing, as the actual bracket that holds the spedo etc in place is bent. also the actual screws to remove the cockpit cowling have broken, as they are held to the spedo with just a crappy piece of thermoset plastic. great.

Gonna cost £133 for a complete new cockpit, free labour or £97 plus labour.

me mum gave me a tenner and told me to go and buy some superglue. bitch. if only she understood!

think im gonna put the tenner to a new cockpit

Just so you know, theres a technique to putting the bike on the side and remaining safe lol.

You should try and stand on the pegs and just before the point to where it touches the ground you can project your self away from it keeping your legs safe, may end up with a bruised leg or something but not gonna hurt half as bad as a bike landing on them plus no burns etc.
