as some of you may know i was looking to get an nc30 really by now, but money situations have meant that i am now unfortunately probably going to be looking at late september maybe even october

however on the plus side, if i wait until then i should have around £6500 to play with.

so what do you think i should do?

yeah i agree you should go for a newer 6 mate though you do need other tuff like helmet, leathers, gloves, security for the thing.

but for a 1st bike a 400 is the ideal bike to start on.

RVF if you must Very Happy Mr. Green

But generally 600cc Inline 4 sports bikes are a better buy.

What's your current bike? What's your riding style? What do you want the bike for? etc

If it's a 'first big bike' I'd say maybe go for a cheap 400 soonish, then upgrade to a 6 later, when you've got the money to spend and have got some experience.

it's going the be the first proper bike. i have been riding scooters but this will be the first geared bike.

the thing is, with this money i need to be able to buy the bike, insurance, lessons, protection petrol money and also it would be handy to have some money left over to customize the bike a bit and also i would need to be able to fund the next years's insurance

so i think i would be better off on a 400, and personally think the vfr would be better just because it is cheaper, so i can get experience then get a 600 after a year or so, what do you guys think?

I own an rvf so im biased but on 95% of roads you cant use the speed the bigger bikes have and the handling is simply sublime.
Plus your jumping up from a scooter so 150mph plus top speeds arent what i hope your after Shocked

Go for an rvf or a mint vfr400 for around 2.5-3 grand easily available on bike trader.

Right then... Lessons £20 an hour, say 3hrs lessons - £60
Test say pass second time - £100
Leathers/ boots/ gloves/ helmet - £600+
2 years insurance for a 400 ~£1000-1800 depending on you, your area, your experience/ points/ claims
Petrol money for how long? Confused I put about £10 on average a week into my bike, but over the warmer months im putting more in. Easily £400 a year I reckon total.

So thats maybe £3000 for two years. So you now have £3500 to buy yourself a 400 with, and can pick up mint ones from £1500 or some even lower.

Try ringing them up and say you past your test today and want to start your insurance tommorow, should get your some more acurate quotes then the online ones plus you can put them against eachother (remember you want legal protection and break down cover)

Breakdown cover can be got for £30 elsewhere so its not much of a big deal. You do want legal cover though.

£800 for a 400 as a first bike would be reasonable

im 19 and last year i was paying 970 with telebikes on a zxr 400 and this year they sent me my renewel for 520 "yes i thaught". anyway the other day i get a letter from another company offering 370 tpft. i think you will agree thats a massive drop why i dont know. your insurance will probably be quite high mate but it will drop. i wouldn't advise getting a sports 6 it is too big of a jump from a scooter.
tanner.

If you have the money, then an RVF would be a nice bike to get started on, espeically if you're relatively small (although not a neccessity).

I assume that you're under 21? If so, then I don't see the problem with getting a sports 600, assuming that you live with the 33bhp restriction for a little while. After a year of having the bike, having your licence, and not claiming, your premium should drop quite significantly.

Having said that, choosing a bike will be so much easier once you've actually passed your test.
