Suspect track days are pretty high up the list.

All the best

From July next year it will not only be illegal to smoke in every pub, club and bar in the country, it will also be impossible to set up a private club run by smokers for smokers.

So if the smokers set up a religious group for smokers who worship the tobacco god, then the govournment will be in contravention of its own legislation Laughing Laughing

Legislation banning the use of threatening words to incite religious hatred was passed by Parliament earlier this year and is expected to come into force next year.

There is a Bar in my local town called the Waterend Barn / Lloyds (St Albans) which is the only no-smoking bar in the area.

It is also the biggest and most popular, and always rammed. Usually with a cueue to get in from about 9pm too.

I think that kind of speaks for its self really.

Thumbs Up

Neither religion nor smoking have a place in todays society, so your point is obselete.

Just think it would be good to use the governments own legislation against them

Ok, if they themselves are smokers, a little unfair if they're not.

Or, if they were worried about it, they could choose a job that doesn't offer these specific dangers.

My job role does offer some risk to my health, but I have chosen to accept the risk for the rewards I get.

There's usually plenty of similar work in places that don't have smoking on the premiss available.

There's a bit of a misconception here. The smoking ban, as far as pubs and clubs go, only applies to pubs and hotels etc that serve food. Any other place that is purely a drinking establishment is exempt from the ban, though they can choose to ban smoking anyway.

Here's the original proposal - https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4014597.stm

Second paragraph.

Rookie, you are right that was the original proposal, but there was an amendment afterwards voting for a blanket ban. Smile

Ah, OK. Out of date newspaper article I saw then.

It's going to be bloody hard to implement, especially in clubs and stuff where people aren't allowed outside after midnight.

I suspect a lot of people will still have the odd crafty fag in clubs, to the point where it will be back to where it was before the ban.

it is the dosy cnuts riding the bikes that crash 'em and cause needless deaths,

any ways, don't smoke so don't care, if people want to make themselves inevitably ill through smoking someway or another, who can stop them? are the places affected by the ban gonna ban everyone who smokes? who will be left to keep these place running? Thumbs Up

I honestly couldnt give a shit either way. I like to drink alcohol, some people drink too much alcohol and get aggressive, should we ban that? I once heard the line 'no-ones ever kicked someones head in because theyve smoked too many fags' but I would to add that if everytime you had a pint you threw the last bit of it over someone so they stank of beer and shove a bit down their throat.

Sometimes I find smoking very anti-social, Ive noticed that I only have one friend who smokes and everyone else always complains at him. Maybe some people could use it as an opportunity to quit. I also like the idea of refusing to treat patients who smoke, and or fat. But thats a completely different argument!! Laughing

extra tax was added to cigarettes by the chancellor a few years ago to pay for the extra burden that smokers would place on the nhs, people who smoke have paid for it, theyre entitled to treatment they require

Im not talking about serious issues, I mean the smaller things. Over twenty years ago my dad had went to his doctor with suspected bronchitis. The first question the quack asked was 'do you smoke' as the old fella said yes he told him to come back when he didnt. People with chest infections and the like or asthmatics who smoke place a ridiculous burden that the docs can't fix because the patients are making the problem worse themselves.

I think that's a great idea.

Of course we'd all have to be refunded every penny we've paid in tobacco tax and NI contributions just to make sure you smug cnuts aren't profiting from us.

I'm sure you'd enjoy the resulting third world shithole of a country you'd be left with as a result.

National Insurance does not pay for the NHS!!! It pays for injuries and sickness at work, unemployment benefit and is part of the Pensions scheme.

The NHS is funded by many of the other taxes are about. Also why would you need to be refunded your money? Surely the taxes people have been paying for now have been paying for the NHS in it's current state. If they stopped treating people who are morbidly obese and people who smoke then obviously the tax would theoretically be scrapped as well.

Read the sentence through again. I said "theoretically", I never did say that it would actually happen. I don't wear the rose tinted glasses that often. Wink

Maybe ideally would have been a more thought through choice of word.

Well you wouldn't want us filthy smokers and lard-arses contaminating your shiny clean welfare state, would you? I assume you mean to prevent us from obtaining any other benefits besides healthcare.

And after us, I imagine you'll find plenty of other high-risk groups to deny - bikers, drivers, firemen, police, forces, gays, ethnics, religions. I suppose it would make life easier if you could just pack them into a few residential areas or camps. Concentrate them all into one place, maybe? You just have to come up with a good name for these places.

Hmm, I wonder... Thinking

Before you fall off your horse in high state of anger, I would like you to read all my posts in this thread and give me an example of myself actually saying that Fatties and Smokers should not receive care under the NHS?

At the end of the day it's your life you will be shortening, you can still receive care from the NHS, cause lets face it, you pay for it and will inevitably use it far more often than I will...Unless I have a bike crash.

I think it's common sense now to have a ban on smoking in public places when a clear majority of people don't smoke. Now this pales an insignificance to bikes as this doesn't affect other people as much as smoking invariably does.

I want to know what some guys are smoking on this forum as there is a clear minority of people who think the end of the world is near and everything will be banned. This forum just oozes with paranoia.

Fatties pay the price already for being fat. They have to buy bigger, more expensive clothes, have to buy more deodorant because fatties generally sweat more, they buy more food more often, they watch tv more hence pay for more electricity, and they pay for it downstairs too because no self respecting lass wants to get with a chubb.

[/bait] Embarassed

I used to be all for the smoking ban but not so anymore...another freedom of choice (etc) being taken away. I'd rather people were more polite and chose to smoke outdoors, not polluting others lungs. Rolling Eyes As for the not getting medical advice, don't be silly.

I am an ex smoker and I'm really looking forward to the ban coming into effect, for my own selfish reasons of course.
Saying that, I can't help thinking that an outright forced ban on ALL pubs is quite ridiculous considering the government is still allowing the sale of tobacco, even to those aged 16 who are still deemed too young to drink. Confused
It will be interesting to see what happens at my local, but bringing in the ban in summer is a good idea when everyone's in the garden anyway.
I don't think it's going to directly encourage people to give up smoking but it would make it a hell of a lot easier for those who want to quite and still go down the pub.
When I was giving up it seemed all my smoking mates were very keen for me to fail and sitting in a pub scratching the table is no fun for the first month or so even without the goading. To be honest I can't wait till they're outside in the p!ssing rain next winter and I'm sitting in the warm fresh air. Laughing
