I'll be glad of it, will help me quit properly.
Works fine in Ireland from what I've experienced, once it's in place here everyone will stop bleating about it.
Scare stories of pavements/doorways spilling over with crowds of smokers, reminds me of the 'debauchery, violence and continuous state of drunkeness for all' warnings when 24 hour licenses for pubs came in!! ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

It would just be nice if there were a choice of smoking and non smoking bars and clubs. That way if the smokers wanted to go to a bar where they can smoke they can, and like wise if the non smokers want to drink in a smoke free environment then they should be able to, I wouldnt want anyone who doesnt smoke to work in a bar where smoking is permitted if they dont want to which is the majority at the moment. But just give everyone the choice on this were all adults apparently and can make those choices. ____________________ We're all just born to die. So lets have some fun

I see this issue being quite black and white:
This ban is not (solely) intended to stop people smoking, just protect the majority who do not smoke from a harmful substance (and here's the important bit) in public places.
I can't see this slipping into banning all 'dangerous' behaviour (motorbikes, cars, being male aged 18-25 etc.) either as there is no real link between them. If it got to the point where motorcyclists were causing the deaths of 700-800 'non-bikers' when riding each year, I'd expect any government to take steps to reduce this, and as a biker I'd support it.
You'll still be able to smoke at home, at private clubs and at pubs that do not serve food (arguments of beer nuts etc. seem arbitrary, awkward and ill-informed). Therefore, smokers will still have a choice, just not the choice to smoke around those who do not wish to smoke. This sounds fair to me.
For what it's worth, I'm a smoker and look forward to the change. |

I'd guess that it's a 'finite' ban as defining what constitutes an 'area' or even a 'room' would make any ruling impossible to enforce:
Many pubs already have smoking areas/no smoking at the bar but, as the evidence would suggest, this does not stop the dangers of passive smoking.
A well ventilated smoking room does sounds fine, but I personally don't know of any pubs with a 'room' to spare. Again, what constitutes a room would also leave a grey area. When traveling Canada I understood smoking to be banned, but such rooms existed: most of the time they were little 'perspex boxes' within the main pub area, and they were crammed with smokers. Of all the places I travelled I smoked the least in Canada, the perspex boxes just looked like gas chambers (and it was far too cold to go outside! ).
I don't see a ban as perfect, but the only way to cover all bases. I don't feel my right to 'choose' is infringed beyond what is fair to myself (I can still smoke, just not in 'public places'), and those around me who do not smoke. |

I think some people are missing the point a bit. On the whole most people couldn't give a fuck if it's more healthy to be in a non smoking pub. I've never been in a pub and heard someone moan about passive smoking killing them off. It's more about the fact that the smoke nips your eyes, tastes disgusting and stinks the place out. Being healthy is just a bonus. ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

ok guys pretty much most of the concerns have been mentioned, and since its been decided there is sweet f,a, that anything can be done about it.
I smoke only when i drink, and after meals etc etc, i was recently in ireland for 3 months and over there they have already implemented this non-smoking policy.over there they allocated small places either inside the club outside specially for smokers so its not that bad. That way it gave smokers to have a smoke and not affect other people.
Now in the uk, where its getting more and more cramped, it will be hard to provide spaces for smokers outside let alone inside, imagine the places in london, no space.
What does this mean for the smokers i.e. myself: Nothing, its a law which all pubs/clubs etc etc will follow so everyone will learn to live with it.
What will this mean for the Landlords of club owners: well theyll be able to increase turn over by creating smoking zones in the places.
As mentioned I have seen this first hand, the clubs are going to stink more and more and more. people B.O. people puking, ( ill stop getting graphic), all these smells are neutralized (lol) by the cigarette smell. so expect some stinking nights out.
now, i could write all day on this topic so as a casual smoker and since i have respect for other peoples health ill say why not its not a bad idea. The smokers will have to get used to it, smoke outside, smoke in the toilets which everyone will, but affectively not kill each other.
i just think if they made airconditioning mandatory then would have been the same thing. the amount of pollution on the street (i.e. london since i live here) that will probably have more of a impact on my health.
Reasons i gave doesnt justify us not implementing this Ban, but then again the Ban isnt the best choice.

I'll be happy to pay my share of the offset if it means a smoke free enviroment. ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

I hate smokers near me when I am having a meal so for one I will be happy. However, when im drinking its not so bad.
But recently I have had to move because the smell of smoke is just making me ill and more ill each day. I smell it everyday at work so, that will be good once it has gone.
I still think tho, its un-called for, my social time being told what I can and what I cant do |
