This morning i'm going to work, it had been raining so it was damp on the roads, i'm going careful.

As i approach the junction to the motorway from the dual carriage way, i change down a cog.....weird, i thought, bit of power struggle there, a blip of the throttle and i know whats coming Rolling Eyes

Bloody out of fuel, need to switch to reserve, bearing in mind im seconds away from having to commit to this long sweeping left which goes almost back on itself to join the M'way. Shocked

The 7R's fuel tap is bloody annoying at times, especially with thick winter gloves on Laughing
So there i am commited in this long left bend, a car behind me, the bikes spluttering making it bloody hard trying to stay on target, one handed and it's wet.

Finally got the bugger to turn and the fuel kicks in, the cars overtaken me, probably confused as to why i was wobblying like a loon trying to do it all one handed.

Anyone else had to turn the tap and the most innapropriate moment?

Yeah, quite a few times, you always seem to run onto reverve when the lights go green too!!

I was thinking of using a 3 way soleniod and a switch to save the hastle of fiddling about with the tap! Thumbs Up

'reserve' seems to be becoming a thing of the past like kick starts and putting a cap on backwards so the wind doesn't blow it off.
A lot of bikes now just have the flashing light to annoy you when its time to start seriously thinking about filling up.

Yep, Middle of a busy junction 2 nights ago, I was desperately trying to get the fuel tap turned while trying to get across the junction without getting flattened (There are side roads directly either side of the junction and there were cars pulling out all over the place).

Every bloody time - or so it feels!

More embarrassingly (thank goodness for the privacy of a helmet) last summer having blatted past a long line of cars bimbling along the lane near my parent's house, I rounded the corner at the end of the long straight - personal drag stip Very Happy - nailed the power coming out of the right onto the the next straight, kicked down for the sharp long left at the end of the straight and felt the familiar coughing.

Didn't find the tap quickly enough after the corner and the bike slowly started dying as I fiddled around frantically. I'd slowed down enough for the long queue of cars to all come past and give me a good dose of the "Stupid biker's going to kill someone" eyes Embarassed

and in some cases, a fuel gauge that has nice little bars that decrease until there's one left.. then that starts flashing, and a trip counter starts counting up from 0, to tell you how far it's been flashing for.

One thing I love about the FZR is it has no tap, it has a switch on top of the left hand side panel, like a small black light switch. The bike starts spluttering, I hit the switch and carry on my way. Very Happy

Replace 'biker' with 'woman'.

That would never happen to a bloke you know.

I'd had two bikes before I got my first bike with a fuel tap. The ones before that had just had a fuel light.

First time I hit reserve the bike stopped. I could see fuel in the tank, had a spark, was turning over... could I get it started? Could I bollox, so I called my mate with a van to come and pick me up.

I don't think I've ever been quite so embarrased in my whole life as when he arrived, turned the tap and started it first kick. Embarassed

Lesson - fuel taps suck

No, it probably wouldn't because a monkey-armed bloke would be able to reach the fuel tap, something I struggle to do having being somewhere near the end of the queue when the angels were giving out long arms Sad

Anyway you can't tell I'm a woman when I'm all leathered up Razz

My bike ran out of petrol on the way back from the kebab house. No reserve tank, so I walked home. Wanting someone to give me a lift and not look a pisshead, I put the kebab in my helmet instead of eating it on the way.

Result? 3 mile walk home, cold kebab and smelly helmet. (bike helmet. Razz )

It's amazing what thoughts spring to mind after a few beers down the pub at lunch time.

Neutral
