Im not too sure if this is normal, but it just came to mind and i thaught i might as well ask.

When i have me fairing off and the engine running, if i rev her away, and leave it running for a while, when i open the throtle, the manifold pipes glow bright red, its kinda offputting incase they melt or something? is this normal ?

well yes they will glow, and they dont have a load of air flowing over them to cool em, they wont melt, no need to worry about that.

They should get very hot, but glowing I'd have said no.

Seen this before when the mixture on a mates bike was too lean ... I'd get it checked out to be on the safe side ... if the engine is running lean then it'll damage valves/pistons.

All the best ... Barry

Nothing to worry about generally though as said, if they glow excessively it could be due to running lean or even too rich. Get it checked on a rolling road if you're concerned. If you have an infrared thermometer this can give a good idea of the mixture strength.

Hi

Thrash it and yes they will glow red, but wouldn't expect that it to do that when just revved a bit.

Running lean or ignition timing wrong are the most likely causes.

All the best

Keith
