theres no need. i tried it once, never again. the remoulds wore very quickly so you would probably use 2 sets in the time that a "fresh" tyre would wear.
Tyres keep you on the road, buy the best you can afford. ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s

for the few quid difference it is to go to a new tyre of a cheap brand it really isnt worth it.
Get new tyres. Everyone I know who has driven on remoulds has said a big fat "never again" afterwards. ____________________ 1997 Kawasaki ER 500 A1:- Once again, Its merely crap |

When I ran my own cars, I was quite happy with remoulds (Minis, Astra, VW Van) but once I started getting company cars it was OEM tyres all the way. Now I'm self employed, I stick to tyres for their longevity, so remoulds are off the list. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

Reduced Road noise,
Reduce'd wobble at high speeds (even ballanced budgets will wobble)
More effective Sipes, Disperse more water quicker,
Harder wearing, Longer lasting,
Some tyre brands even claim that their tyres increase MPG. I guess only Geeks would notice this though.
Budget tyres are awful. |
My front tyres are "Sava" something or other.
Not noticed any more noise.
Wobble i really havn't noticed, and i've done a fair few late night motorway miles.
Mpg - god knows, it varies too much anyway.
Got 5k miles out of the bf goodrich's that were on before, they were replaced well over the limit at 1.1mm (got the police statememnt thing to prove it )
Savas have done 3k miles so far, about 4mm left on them. |

Years ago I guy I worked with had this old granada coupe,
https://www.americancarsuk.com/Previous_Cars/Ford_GranadaGhiaCoupe_RWO450R/granada02.jpg
a right oddball thing it was, i'd never seen one before, and never seen one since. Anyway, one day he comes into work raving about these french tyres he'd bought. They were really cheap he says. We presumed he had bought some michelins, but when he told us the price we knew they couldn't be. What are they we asked?
"RE Mold" he replies, with a bit of a french accent. "The guy at the garage told me they were rebranded michelins".

| Zimbo wrote: | 'nuff said. Decent tyres don't fold over. Would you rather corner on the side wall or the tread? |
The tyres that were on it before i put the savas on were £45 a corner (or so i was quoted) and they had more sidewall wear than these ones, although you cant really tell now because of the wet. The profile is 70, a crappy small wheel with big balloon tyre, there wont be many, if any tyres available for it which wont fold over.
| Zimbo wrote: | And a higher speed rating. |
Dont need a higher speed rating in a 1.4.
| Zimbo wrote: | And better wet weather performance in most cases. |
Slightly yes.
| Zimbo wrote: | oh, and up to double the tyre life. |
Definately not.
| Zimbo wrote: | More resistance to blowouts and sidewall damage, stiffer carcass for more accurate profile under side loads |
Maybe, possibly. Sat at high speeds for 1-2 hours, hard braking and acceleration everywhere. They have not blown up yet.
| Zimbo wrote: | there's lots of advantages associated with the £70 a corner tyre. For many of us these advantages aren't reallty worth having, |
Of course there is, but you don't /need/ that better grip, it's nice to have, but not worth the extra £50 per corner imho.
| Zimbo wrote: | if you use your car round town, don't corner hard and won't keep the car long you won't get the benefit of the expensive tyre, but if you rag it everywhere and corner at high speeds, and / or keep the car for more than say 20,000 miles, it's probably worth spending the extra for a decent tyre. |
As you may or may not know i'm getting banned from driving, so i'm getting the most of my car while i can. You could say i corner at high speeds and the car gets ragged everywhere. I would definately benefit from more grip, but £50 a corner for better grip simply is not worth it imo. |
