Surprised this has not come up before...did not find anything in a search.

I was thinking it's the time of the year we take a day off and get the train to Alexandra Palace have a few beers and look at bikes and women, I found the dates to be:

Friday 26th to Sunday 28th January 2007.

However there seems to be a replacement show on the way down at Excel

https://www.londonmotorcycleshow.com/

This is apparently the last year of Ali Pali but there is an overlap.

Asking around it seems that the vendors have to pay 4x the fee they did at Ali Pali so they are keen to stay there, however it seems all the manufacturers are going to Excel.

We only have time to do one show but not sure which, have you lot heard anything ?

Well it looks like the Ally Pally is going to be done by Superbike Magazine, so while it's likely to have more in the way of naked breastage, it'll also likely to have more in the way of dickheads. Think it's excel for me. Thumbs Up

Are the London shows still relevant with the premier show being at the NEC now?

the london show used to be called the "roadracing and superbike show" [nothing to do with superbike mag then] and was THE place to buy race bikes, parts and gear at a knock down price.

but then it got just as commercial as the NEC, and lost its relevance i think. MCN then started sponsoring it

a few years back another promoter launced the "london motorcycle show" at Excel and it was pants.

now MCN have taken their show to Excel, and superbike have steped in to sponsor a show at ally pally as their own.

this year is the first of both running at the same time and the competition from the promoters should be huge, "bigger venue better bikes, hotter babes" etc etc

i suspect all this will do is dilute interest in both, as most people arent interested in add ons like ride a moped in the car park, or the poxy fasion shows, they just want a bargain.

Haven't been to the NEC, but from what I heard they're both as bad as each other.

This is the way I understand what is happening with these shows this year is thus:

The MCN London Motorcycle Show is the one that has been at Ally Pally for the last 20 years and it is now moving to the new venue ExCel, which is not far from Canary Wharf. So to all intents and purposes this is the show that we all know (and love?).

The 'new' Ally Pally Superbike Show has taken advantage of the fact that the traditional show has moved venue and they are staging something else in its place and I would assume that they hope to attract the crowds on the basis of what has gone on there previously. Now whether this show will be any good or not is anyones guess, but don't fall into the trap of assuming that the show at Ally Pally this year is the same as the one from the previous 20 years. Very Happy

Hi there

well i went to the NEC for this years show, it was pretty good but i must admit i was a little disappointed that the shows and stuff were available at extra cost and weren't included on the price of the ticket

As for the ally pally and the LMS i've gone for the Ally Pally, simply because the range of people attending and things to do seems to outweigh whats going to be available at the other show, check out this link for info:

https://www.superbike.co.uk/allypally/whatson.php

take care

Amen! It used to be an excellent show before MCN screwed it up!!

I'll NOT be going to Excel, I'm not bothered about looking at all the new bikes from the manufacturers. I'm going to Ally Pally to see what thats like, and fingers crossed its going to be nothing like the MCN show!

Thumbs Up

Yes. Considering there are more motorcycles registered in London than anywhere else and more working motorcyclists very relevant.

This is the biggest market so people turn up. Could be questioned if the NEC is still relevant these days?

As I understand it, MCN moved their show to ExCel for better facilities and Superbike Magazine (or rather, their owners) jumped in and filled the vacant gap at Ally Pally. It does mean that they'll be two competing bike shows in London within a week or so of one another.

The Ally Pally was pretty crap last year. Everything seemed spread across loads of different rooms, halls and corridors giving it a very disjointed feel. I'll probably be going to both for the site, so should be interesting. The competition could improve the shows' standards, or kill one of them.

No I don't think they are.

For some of us London is too far away. The NEC is still 120 miles for me.

I find it weird having a show, where there's no real biking roads.

If its an English Show then the NEC I would think is the logical location. Also thats where Wembley should have been, why the f**k London, why not central England so everyone can go.

A British show, I would be saying somewhere in Yorkshire or Lancashire, so the Scotts could still come and the southerners.

Not sure where you get that idea from, there's plenty of good riding to be had around London.

My ideal biking roads are over the tops moor roads, with no cars.

I can literally do 20 miles over the tops and only see 2 or 3 other vehicles.

I think a lot of people including myself make a day of it and come by train, that way you can have a few beers and buy some bits, coming on the bike is a pain. When I lived in Devon I used to come to London for shows, never worried me even though it was 3 hours on the train.

The other good thing about London is you can go have a few beers afterwards.

I do agree that there should be another show up north for those of you in Scotland etc.

Really? Surely you could argue that the congestion etc means that London's roads are perfect for biking.

You're making the mistake of thinking that Birmingham is central in terms of population! Wink

Motorcycle Sport and Leisure (the best of the mags) have joined forces with Superbike (haven't opened one for 15 years) for the Ally Pally show. And as I don't think much of the MCN shows and the jouney across London is awful there is no choice for me.

Well my mate has just asked me if im wanting to go to ally pally on friday...

Did a search first to see if anything had been posted and came across this thread.

Ive never been before, and only went to the NEC for the first time last year. Is it worth the ~160mile round trip to see it? I dont mind doing the milage but ive heard different things about ally pally...

The main worry for me at the minute is the parking, although they boast 2000 spaces, ive been told its not very good and you could end up parking streets away... i dont want to leave my bike in some side street in the middle of london. I need it to get home again...

The parking at the NEC was fantastic, with security and a sheltered hanger, i was very very impressed and will be going again next year, but i just dont want to leave my bike somewhere, out in the elements where people are going to be walking past it and theres possibilities of it getting stolen or damaged you know? Maybe its jsut me... but can anyone give me any clarification?
