I'm thinkin of buyin a 94 mito import. its got 11000 kms on the clock and has got a sports exhaust. looks in real good nick and it's in green. looks the same colour as the foggy bike. are there any sorta things i should be lookin for on it?
what are they like as an all round bike, good points and bad points?

Craig.

Hi

Not bad. Cagivas are nicely engineered, and the bodywork is tough. Electrics can be a tad iffy, and if the power valve is misadjusted it will touch the piston and cause loads of damage when hot

Other than that just the usual things to look out for

By the way, I think that colour was on the earliest Mitos. By 1994 they had moved onto the versions with the upside down forks. It isn't uncommon for Italian imports to get the wrong years registration number.

All the best

Keith

the guy i'm buyin it off says that they are so rare in green he's only ever seen 3. he's gunna let me have it un registered for £750 does that sound a good price? theres a couple of scratches from wheres it knocked other bikes in his van but other than that its ok.
also do they blow up a lot? my last bike always blew up an i dont wanna go through rebulding an engine again!

Mito's need frequent rebuilds just as any other highly tuned two stroke needs, if they dont get their rebuilds then yes they do seize/blow up.

You are meant to rebuild Aprilia RS125's every 8000km I suspect that the Mito is very similar.

Make sure you always use good quality two stroke oil.

it cost £90 to register it so all together thats £850. in the bike trader they sellin at over £1200. the guy has gone on holiday now for 2 weeks which gives me a bit of time to save up a little cash.

when you say they need rebuildin do you just mean a hone out and a new piston and rings?

Dear lord what are they on the NSR's?
I'm sure Colins is almost up to 30'000km on the original bore piston...

mine doesn't look like the top end has been touched, and thats one 17'000khm.

My bike is indeed on somewhere around 30k, and I would guess (considering the state of the bike) that it is indeed the original piston.

Thats not bad really considering its now only starting to show wear / loss of compression. 30'000km on orginal bore piston and rings on a 2 stroke is an achievement really.

Thank god for the low tuning of the F versions, lol.

Cheap Cheap.

Colin are you thinknig about buying a new bike or something, as you was asking about manuals and such for 600's...

I'm desperate for a new bike but just can't afford one.

The manual is for a burpday present for the bird who's party I'm going to in Germany.

Hopefully while I'm there either she'll let me have a go on her ZX-6 or her bloke will let me ride his Z1000! Razz

just out of interest, but where are you getting the Mito from then. Its just i know a shop not too far away that has a green Mito with rwu forks, and about 8 other 125's for sale, all italian imports and most of them look fairly clean and tidy, especially an NSR125F unfaired in the same blk/green/purple colours as the RK that annabella had i think.

Hi

The Mito does need care and attention. There is a guy on another forum with one at around 15000~20000km on its original rings though. In the workshop manual it is down for cleaning the combustion chamber, piston and rings at 5000km.

I bought a 2nd hand old AF1 which had 25000km on the clock. Suspect it was still on its original piston, and still ran despite having had at least one serious seizure

All the best

Keith

Hey Kieth, im going off topic slightly but what do you think of the Cagiva Elephant 125? Its supposed to look like a paris dakar style, and similar to an Aprilia Rally 125 i think. Theres 1 for sale for £500 near me, and its an import, done around 7k i think. Im only interested maybe? if:
a) i can easily get any Cagiva spares without long waiting times.
b) If i can fit a big bore kit and a performance pipe is available to give a bit more snap.
c) if its gonna be any good to convert to a supermoto, i.e. 17" rims, and a reasonably 130/140 sized rear tyre will go into the swing arm.
Im inclined to leave it, but then again if its in decent condition and say i can get it for £450 then its a cheapish project bike.

I thought it might be that bike you were talking about. Im in Bromsgrove btw. What are you paying for it again? I went to see about the NSR unfaired that he has for £1300. That bike looks mint, and is a 94 i think. he did have an Aprilia RX125, and a Pegaso as well. i dont know what else as the bloke was still in italy according to the Mechanic guy i spoke to. I wasnt interested in the Aprilias as i have head too many storys of unreliable motors, but i thought that cagivas might be a bit better/ more reliable, i dont know? I have got a scoot to sell at the min, and then im gonna start looking for a nice project bike. Top of my list is another KMX200, as i was a twat to sell mine, and i dont think that anyone has ever supermoto'd a KMX, so that could be a good project, if i find one. Ive bin to loadsa dealers with my scoot, as so far i aint had any luck from my ad in the paper. The only dealer that wants to give me anything is QB Motorcyles. £900 px against another bike. They have a 98 KMX125 which is cosmetically tatty for £1495, id only pay £1000 for tops, or an RD350R M reg with 5500miles for £1795. I aint looking for a 350YPVS but id probably give it some thought for £1500. Bit of a fast winter hack tho!

Looks more like an Aprilia Tuareg. They were never officially imported and I suspect spares might be fun to get hold of. Think there is a big bore kit for it, but nor certain (it is basically the Freccia / Mito engine, but not sure which power valve it will have)

Doubt you have much hope of an aftermarket pipe for it

Might be possible to convert to 17" rims, but then that is going to look a bit off with the large tank.

All the best

Keith

Cheers Keith, yeah your thoughts have confirmed what i was thinking, and il leave it well alone. My best option in some ways is another kawasaki, and im thinking KMX/KDX/AR125 or bigger, as a 2nd bike that i can buy cheap and re-build over winter, to keep as a 2nd bike for running around on. I say this as im Close to Cradley Kawasaki, and they have been great for spares for my old KMX, and i belive they are one of the biggest spares stockists in europe for Kawasaki's, and getting spares quickly and easy is definately one of the most important things to me. dream 2nd bike though is a CRM250AR s/moto, but due to the price of them, im convincing myself that a KMX will do nearly as well!
Cheers Anyway,
Steve.

Mito engines are just as fragile (if not more so) than the Aprilia ones.

you should be able to get a set of carbon race reeds and a 30 or 34mm dellorto carb from https://www.50cc.nl. Expensive though, when you consider at the end of the day its only a 125, you wont keep it forever!! (a new 30 / 34mm carb is in the region of £200 - £250! Shocked )

Yup, they go pop regularly....even if they are looked after well. They are in such a high state of tune that it is inevitable that something will go wrong sooner or later.

Not to worry you or anything, but the worst thing about cagiva is parts availability. I wont go into details here, but read [this] thread.

Good luck with the bike, the mito's are excellent.
