Ive seena nice bike that im tempted by on ebay, the only problem is its in northern ireland.

Now getting it back on the ferry isnt a problem, however im unsure of if i need to re-register it or anything once its back here ??

Ive seen plenty of bikes in local showrooms with irish plates still on

Is anyone able to shed some light on the situation??

Cheers
Tom

You shouldn't have to, it's still part of the UK.

Hi

Yes you will have to reregister it. The DVLA do not cover Northern Ireland, just Great Britain.

Used to be easy and free. Not sure these days.

All the best

Keith

If you want to register the bike then you will need:

Arrow Insurance (or at least a cover note)
Arrow Visit a local DVLA office (just use google or the DVLA web page) as it saves time and you get to talk and deal with a real person.
Arrow VAT excempt form, if you are importing a bike then the DVLA will want to know that you have paid for the import tax
Arrow The appropriate V form for registration (I pressume the NI V5 will suffice)
Arrow £45 for costs of registering it
Arrow You can apply for tax at this stage Wink
Arrow SVA or MOT can then be arranged.

All in all, it took the DVLA 5 days to return the appropriate forms Thumbs Up If I had sent it myself god knows how much longer it would have taken.

The final thing would be to go and get a UK number plate.

Depends whether it is on a GB log book. Take a vehicle from GB to NI (or the other way round) and when you locally register it they will give you the option of keeping the original plate or having a local one.

All the best

just go to your local dvla and fill in the log book form, take all your doc with you and they will swap it all for gb docs, if it allready has tax it won`t cost any thing. did mine last july.

I'm in Northern Ireland mate and unless it is one hell of a bargain it wouldn't be worth the hassle. A lot of bikers in NI go to England for a cheap deal on a bike. So a boat trip is what say £200 return Belfast - Stranraer? Then depending on where abouts the bike is you have to drive to pick it up. Then going back have to drive it a good bit home.

Not worth the hassle and if you look harder you'll probably find the same type of deal only a couple of hundred quid less Thumbs Up
