just a small question

my bike is an unregistered import and the insurance company have given me 30 days to register it and give them the reg no. can i ride the bike on the road now or can i only drive it to and from the mot and to and from the dvla station?

have you got a foreign plate on it, and how many months has it been since you bought it into the uk?

AFAIK you can't ride it at all until its registered. You will need to figure out some way of transporting it for the MOT etc.

i think: if its on a foreign plate you can ride it for upto 3 months maximum, so if you havent passed the 3 months you can ride it to the dvla and mot office, but if your 3 months are up, your going to have to take it up on a van or trailer!

With a foreign plate on it you can ride it for a short time to get it registered. Think in theory you are only allowed to ride it directly home, and directly to and from the MOT station, etc.

If the bike is not registered at all (so the insurance is on the chassis number) then you can ride it without numberplates to and from the MOT station (was told this by some friends who made kit cars for a living, then confirmed it with the MOT station and with a neighbour who is a copper). You cannot ride it elsewhere until it is registered after that (and I don't believe you can even ride it to the DVLA if they decide they want to inspect it)

I have imported a 2nd hand car from Belgium and registered 2 2nd hand bikes from Italy. Not really a problem, although the rules have just changed in June which will makes things more difficult.
