DVLA at their finest

So I finally check through yesterdays mail at 3am this morning to find a letter addressed to my old trading name, interesting I thought.

So I open it up to discover DVLA are fining me for not taxing a bike. Convinced the bike is MOT'd and taxed I take a wander through DVLA's website to check and the bike has been taxed since October. conveniently for DVLA they've failed to tell me when it wasn't taxed and it was SORN'd before being taxed so I'm a bit confused.

Next thing is to phone DVLA enforcement in kent who have no details of the letter as although it has there letter head its sent by DVLA Swansea and I now have to take the time to write to the fucktards.

How can any government department be this inept that they cant even check their own computers before trying to fine you?

As the bike is taxed, what'd happen if you just ignored all their letters, let them take you to court and turn up to court on the bike complete with tax disc that'd be stamped a few months ago from whichever post office it was bought from?

Never heard of them fining someone who does actually have tax though!

cus they are fishing , Gordon has fucked up the economy BIG time , and thus they are sending out such things in the hope somebody is dumb enough not to respond and pay up,

sort of like with tax returns , they send out threatening letters to people which more or less say:

"we know you are cheating the tax system we are watching you blah blah

if you voluntarily submit any undeclared information there will be lesser penalties",

This has caused me to be Manchester Area tax office public enemy number #1 since I complain and have many tax inspectors disciplined

I'm all for ID cards! Not meaning to take this on an unrelated to bikes tangent, but people moan about ID cards for the sake of it in my opinion.

Whining "but it's against our human rights", "what about our civil liberties", blah blah blah.

You should have to carry them and produce on demand by police! If you are who they are after, hoorah! If not then it's a moment of your time to eliminate you from enquiries, helping police and speeding things up.

Also no under age drinking, some of you may think that's a bad thing but when you have to deal with a 14 and 15 year old who were taken to hospital, one completely out of as thanks to getting served, have parents come down sick with worry, come speak to me then!

Got into a rant there so here's something DVLA related. I got my car license 9 years ago. I got my bike license last year and so obviously did my theory and hazard perception, I am trained above normal drivers anyway due to work, and yet to add D1 on my license I have to do the theory and hazard perception all over again!

Ok so they are a little tailored to the vehicle type but I'm sorry, to me it's ludicrous. Why not have a system in place whereby the tests are valid for say 2 years, just like the probationary driving period?

Thanks for that your advance training means nothing to me to be blunt but then I've complained about Police Officers dangerous driving TWICE and both times the Officers have admitted guilt. I've seen a lot of Police RTA's.

All the training in the world means nothing if its not used and the arrogance of many Police drivers surpasses that of many pissed up little chavs.

Back to the topic. There is no government department in the UK that has a computer system that does what it was meant to do. If I remember even the PNC was down for a few weeks in november.

If we cant get something as simple as a yes/no question answered with a degree of reliability such as is a vehicle taxed then we're going to struggle with a multi option ID scheme.

Now the tax office has become part of revenue and customs they've got a lot more harsh and devious, numerous cases of them going ott round here. Govt large computer systems are notoriouslly crap, couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

a mate of mine works in local council and some of the storys about the computer systems he has to use are just scary. On his information i'd say a 14 yr old could come up with better systems and they pay people 6 figure salaries to do this?
