PostPosted: 15:12 - 03 Feb 2007    Post subject: Question on a certain VFR 400 Reply with quote

Right basically, I've been lookign to get off my 125 Chinese crap and get onto a bigger bike. Got my theory done and my test booked for March the 2nd along with 2 full training days booked for Feb 28th and March 1st.

Most of the time I've been looking at getting a CBR600F but lately I've been thinking it might be too much for me or anything. So I've been looking at 400's. Mainly CBR or VFR. But I've yet to find a CBR400 that I like the look off or looks well kept. And just now I've seen a very nice looking VFR 400.

Here's the VFR's description

Quote:
31,050 miles, RED AND BLACK, MOT-02-2008. ALL KEYS AND PAPERWORK SUPPLIED, BARGAIN, CASH EITHER WAY, CREDIT OR DEBIT CARDS WELCOME, DELIVERY ANYWHERE FOR A FEE, Established 25 years, FOR A VIEWING PLEASE CALL US, Garaged, GREAT VALUE, PART EXCHANGE WELCOME, PRICED TO SELL, SIMILIER BIKES BOUGHT FOR CASH, SMALL DEPOSIT SECURES, TAXED, WARRANTY, WILL HOLD ON SMALL DEPOSIT. FITTED WITH R AND G RACING EXHAUST CAN, TAXED TO THE END OF MAY 2007. £1,295.

https://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=465216761

The best thing is it's only 24 miles way from me and I'm going to see it this Tuesday.

Basically I'm just wondering the differences between the VFR and the CBR 400. Would like a CBR600F but price and my grandad thinking I'll kill myself has kind of put me off it. Maybe later eh?

Is £1300 for a '91 VFR 400 with 31k miles a good price? Mileage too high? What about CBR400's? Haven't seen any that catch my eye. What are they like?

Ah sorry. I didn't know NC29 and NC30 meant CBR or VFR ... don't know too much about bikes yet...

But just wondering if the VFR I'm looking at is a good deal?

£1300 looks like a good price, mileage is probably about right. Certainly give it a good look over before you lay down any cash though.

Sounds like a trader, so I'd try and haggle them down. I'd pay around £1000/1100 for that.

Sounds like someone with a little yard somewhere who just buys and sells anything they can get their hands on. Bodging or covering any problems up then sticking a couple of hundred quid on the price and putting it back up for sale. So check it over very carefully.

Do R&G do an exhaust can or is it just a protector? Suggests he doesn't know much about bikes which could be a good or bad thing.

From the picture that looks like its a Motorcycles Unlimited in Perivale.

If it is be very careful with them and don't bother listening to what the guy has to say about the bike as he doesn't know anything about them.

I bought my R1 from them, was told it was a UK bike and it will have an MOT when I pick it up. Then I find out it was German and was MOT passed by a blind man.

They have loads of bike there and they are selling some of them at silly prices. Get the bike HPI cleared before you part with any money.

I hate shinny bike syndrome Sad

If they're OE discs and it's been ridden hard they'll be shagged.

Discs aren't cheap. Haggle.

It doesn't even sound worth the effort of going to look. The dealers sound like too much of a messer before you've even got there. Thumbs Down

How so?

And considering it's one of the bikes that is closest to me..

I'm going to ee it on Tuesday anyways. Gonna check with my friend if everything's ok and everything. Hopefully get the price down a bit.

On the subject of the bike, looks like a shonky trader to me - take a mate who knows a bit about bikes (if you don't have one, i'm sure there is a BCFer in your area who will happily oblige).

I look at those disks and see the radial concentric pattern on them, they'll probably be on the way out. bet on 300 for a pair + fitting for EBC prolites. Add on stickers are often never a good thing, as they may conceal bodywork damage. Ask about servicing details and the lot. I'd pay a grand max on that bike, based on thinking that something WILL go wrong. With the jap imports, you gotta budget for the unexpected otherwise you'd end up in shit creek like me on my ZXR250 waiting on parts and repairs... and being bikeless on a crisp sunny february weekend!

You have no idea how muh I've wanted a CBR600F. I'd even borrow money from my dad or mum and pay them back from a job that I will hopefully get.

It's just my grandad has a friend who used to race in the Isle of Man apparently and when my grandad asked him about the CBR he said "CBR? That's a sportsbike. He'll kill himself. I wouldn't let my grandson on one" doubt he'd let his grandson on a 125 either Confused

The insurance on the CBR is about 700 a year TPO only. Only 30 more than last year on my 125. And on a VFR400 the insurance is about 500 TPO.

Would love a CBR600F but I think a 400 would be wiser choice. I have been riding for a year and 2 months though so it's not like I'm inexperienced. Nothing bigger than a 125 though.

Still want a 600 Twisted Evil

I think I will be looking at another VFR400. It's 24 miles away from me, roughly same age and mileage. But plain black and silver. and it's only £995. I've also been looking into convertions of the front fairing as I hate the twin circle headlights. Saw a much nicer headlight fairing for the NC30 Mr. Green

Want to change the ugly twin circle headlight fairing
https://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=426461206

For this beauty.
https://tyga-performance.com/site/images/BPFS-0011.jpg

I'm also going to change the back end. For something much sexier. I've looked at several pointy ends that still have 2 seats and would actually fit with the above fairing. Getting well excited. Gonna get it all spray painted black at a local place for about 100-150 my friend thinks and then get some vinyls. Trying to go for a stealth look. Black and gray all the way Mr. Green

This bike is not an import apaprently or so the dealer said. And I will be going with a friend who does know about bikes. Well more than I do. I dont really know much but want to learn. And Like in my previous post I iwll be getting new fairings. So I doubt I'll actually get the VFR in the top picture but getting a black/silver one for under a grand with same mileage and same year. Will get new fairings for it.

Also, I want to change the taal end from this
https://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=426461211

To this, in my own colours of course
https://i2.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/87/90/75a4_1.JPG
https://i19.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/87/90/7712_1.JPG
https://i21.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/87/ca/0e55_1.JPG

I've checked and it can all fit together on the bike.

Both the front fairing and the tail fairing are the same make. Will also need to get the bellypan and it should be all sorted. Would want some shiny new pipes too Mr. Green

Ah ok.

And I just want to change the look of the bike. Don't like the headlights at all and would much prefer a neat rear end. This would be a bike I'd keep for probably 2 years or more so I don't see a problem with making it look better IMO

If you want to do up the bike, get a CBR600RR tail fitted. I think asadev from this forum (rarely comes on), has a VERY VERY nice bike. Seen it and i couldn't believe the standard of paintwork he did on his bike with only rattle cans. Combine that with a tyga front, and you're laughing, although Craig might have other words to say regarding the fit of the fairing.

Here's pics of adam's bike

Thing being when you come to sell it people will be more wary of it then they would be with a standard bike (i.e. where's the standard bodywork), plus I would guess most people looking for an NC would prefer stock body work, especially as the bodywork on the first bike you showed looks in reasonable condition.

True, although I thikn I'll be keeping the original fairings. The bike I'm actuyally looking at has slight damage. Nothig major. My whole plan was to keep the original fairings in for ahwile till I get used to the bike and then add the fairings I want. And when it comes to selling it if I sitll have the original fairings then I'll just change them. Though I'd think I'd probably sell them after awhile.

VERY NICE! That's the sort of tail I want. But how would I go about fitting one? Would I need ot byu a subframe, etc? The tail I wa slookign at came with everything. Subframe, battery holder, etc. And I owuld so want to change the front fairing. Don't like the look of those lights!

You need to change the entire rear end, subframe etc.
