This guy gets my vote. If only our Home Secretary would take note!
TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF (ARIZONA) AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
These are some of the reasons why:
* Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the "tent city jail" to save Arizona
from spending tens of million of dollars on another expensive prison
complex.
* He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the
inmates for them.
* He banned smoking and porno magazines in the jails, and took
away their weightlifting equipment and cut off all but "G" movies. He
says: "they're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault innocent people when they leave."
* He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on
county and city projects and save taxpayer's money.
* Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued
for discrimination.
* He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal
court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel.
* When asked why the weather channel he replied: "so these morons
will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain
gangs."
* He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is
therefore a waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained,
he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."
* He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history
that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any
lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why 95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.
* With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116
degrees just set a new record for June 2nd), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed- wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.
* On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxer shorts were
chatting in the tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees. "This is
hell. It feels like we live in a furnace," said Ernesto Gonzales, an
inmate for 2 years with 10 more to go. "It's inhumane."
* Joe Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna
sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. "Criminals should be punished
for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commit more crimes so they can come back in to live on
taxpayers money and enjoy things many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves."
* Wednesday he told all the inmates who were complaining of the
heat in the tents: "It's between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to walk all day in the sun, wearing full battle gear and get shot at, and they have not committed any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"
* Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would
be a lot less crime and we would not be in the current position of
running out of prison spaces.
If you agree, pass this on. If not, you are a namby-pamby liberal
bed-wetter so just delete it.
Sheriff Joe was just re-elected Sheriff in Maricopa County ,

And yet the crime rate in Maricopa County doesn't seem to be dropping as radically as those statements suggest.
Violent crime rates are down slightly yet property crime is on the increase.

Given the weather we have here (more on the cold and wet side) you're just asking for inmate death there. Hypothermia anyone?
| Quote: | * He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the

As long as they are nutrionally sound and take into account individual requirements (for instance, religious) I can't see a huge problem here. However, given how much trouble schools have been having trying to lower the cost of dinners *and* make them healthy I'm just not sure that's viable here either.

Banning smoking I'd be all for. Porno mags - hmm. That one would be debatable /shrug. The weight-lifting kit? That's getting silly... yes, they may well be more musclebound should they re-offend but you don't need to be so to commit crimes. That just smacks of the sort of headline grabbing bollocks that happens when you start electing such positions.
| Quote: | * He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on

All for inmates working. If they're fit and able I see no problem with this work being physical. Although... if you refer to his above assertion concerning not wanting his inmates to be physically strong/muscular it's a tad strange to give them such physically demading work which may well improve fitness.
| Quote: | * When asked why the weather channel he replied: "so these morons
will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain

See above response about this sort of headlining grabbing comment...

On a personal note - nooooooooooooooooooooo!
Otherwise /shrug

So, bit of a republican then? > <

Nice... that's it. You reinforce that gender stuff. /sigh
| Quote: | and eat bologna sandwiches |
And he banned coffee for its lack of nutritional value?
| Quote: | * Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would

As mentioned above, that doesn't exactly seem to be the case.
Granted from what I can tell he has implemented some decent changes too (the education programme for one) a wholesale adoption of his techniques doesn't sound like the best of plans. To me that is. Oh, and I'm not a namby-pamby liberal btw > < ____________________ "when i look down i just miss all the good stuff

and? British army has a daily meal budget of 36p , I recall the pre Iraq war propaganda where they had an army chef go on a TV cook show, the chef was asked by the host how much per soldier per day he said 36p,
sure they can buy in ultra bulk , but if you can feed a man to FIGHT for 36p a day , surely for prisoners who don't fo half as much work put it down to abour £1 a week? , ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. I like the guy too
Violent criminals/murderers shouldnt be treated well at all. Locking the fuckers up and throwing away the key and feeding them nothing but bread and water would also be a good method. ____________________ Yamaha rxs100 > Kawasaki ZZR600 > Kawasaki ZX6R > Honda Hornet 600 > Honda Bros 400 > Suzuki SV650S K2

If society wasn't subjected to the greed and corruption of the rich and powerful the 'need' for crime would be drastically reduced.
Where 'need' = the refusal of real men to be wage-slave tossers. |
So you're saying those murderers and rapists were really just martyrs of modern society?
Even if we only look at the thieves, that's no better. Because they refuse to work for their money they're just a victimised group who did the only thing they could? Bollocks. There is no 'need' for crime, only people who think they 'need' whatever they're stealing, or 'need' money to buy their next fix. |
So a man (yer common man, not some spoiled-brat rich-kid everything-on-a-platter waste of space) has two choices...work for a pittance, and see most of it taken in taxes and predatory prices, or go back to nature and hunt/gather ('steal').
Unfortunately there is no middle ground, it's rob or be robbed. Refuse to work for their money? No, it's more a case of refuse to be worked like a tool, for peanuts, and then be robbed blind by the government and big business.
Even more unfortunate is the fact that the majority of men choose not to stand up to the legalised extortion, theft, robbery and general abuse perpetrated by government and business. And by failing to stand up to it the minortity who do are labelled 'criminals', when in fact it is the criminality of government, business and the entire capitalist system that is to blame.
Or, to put it in another, very simple, way: if you're not a coward you're a criminal (bend over like the rest of us or go to gaol).
Most of the prison population are unable to articulate their situation like that, all they know is they won't stand in front of a lathe eight hours a day, six days a week, for peanuts, and have those peanuts raped by 'The Great and Good'. Whilst the wife is also forced to slave-labour, whilst the kids are raised by un-caring strangers and corrupted by other kids and a morally bankrupt school system ("You ain't here to learn anything other than how to become a tool yourself").
Those who bleat the loudest about 'criminals' are the biggest wind-bag cowards themselves. "No, I refuse to countenance the thought that I'm an extorted tool who's too gutless to take a stand...me's a good hard-working salt-of-the-earth working-class hero and I love my job, and the pittance I'm paid for doing it. 55% tax? Highest prices in the civilised world? That's just how we like it! (yeah)".
Crime pays. And you know why? Even when it results in prison? Because it leaves one's pride intact, if not one's physical freedom. |

We should all stick it to the government and go robbing!
There will be sod all to nick! No one will have any money to buy anything for others to steal and even if they did, it wouldn't matter as there would be nothing to buy as no one is making anything!
Yes tax is high in this country, if it botheres you that much, there are lpenty of planes and boats you can take so you don't have to put up with it any more.
If you feel your getting crap money, do something about it, put in some work and better yourself and get a better job. You might be all against taxes and big corporations but I bet if, god forbid, you have a nasty off on the bike you'll be bloody gratefull for that hospital that's funded by taxes and those drugs made by the big corporations! |
I guess this is a good example of why the UK population is so ground under-heel. Everything has to be spelled out in neon letters, Janet & John style.
No, the answer isn't for everyone to go out robbing. The answer is public solidarity...you know, the kind we saw in a brief flash when the poll-tax riots erupted. The public saying enough is enough.
Every single adult refusing to pay council tax would be a good start. Then every single motorist refusing to pay scamera extortion. And road tax. Getting the idea? Civil disobediance, on a mass scale. Us telling them that we won't take it anymore, because this is OUR country, OUR lives and the government is a SERVANT, not a MASTER.
But I guess there are enough gutless wankers prepared to believe that all the money robbed from us by a criminal establishment is actually used for US? That most of it isn't syphoned off into the back pockets of establishment cronies. Billions of our tax pounds is stolen, one way or another. A fraction is actually spent on US, servicing US and OUR NEEDS. Approx 55% of every working adult's income goes to the government...and for what? What do we get for that stupendous amount of our money? Russian-roulette NHS care, dis-functional education and a pot-holed social infrastructure. A police-force that's about as much use as a chocolate teapot and a military that's predominantly used for anyone's interests but ours'.
I'd say around 10% of our tax money actually comes back to us in any useful way. The rest is stolen, corrupted, squandered and wasted. With the emphasis on stolen (in some fat-cat's pocket).
You have to be some kind of cunt to buy into the establishment line.
And what are the alternatives? Leave the country? Why should I have to leave my own country? Because it's been taken over by a bunch of cheap lying crooks, and the population is too spineless to do anything about it? Live off the land? And what, be arrested for any one of countless charges designed to stop people from living a natural existence?
Self employment, all cash in hand and nothing to the taxman...until you get caught and, suprise, you're one of those criminals in gaol.
Or join the government and big business and decide to rob & steal off the cattle. Why not? You let the government and big business do it, so why not the guy next door? What's the difference? Because one does it with a piece of paper and calls it legal, whilst the other does it with a crowbar and it's called a crime?
Yes, the prison population has it's share of scumbags, and why not? It's a microcosm of regular society after all. But the majority of the people in prison are those who refused to become slaves but had no better alternative than to rob and pillage (unless the govt has set up communes where those who want no part of this 'civilisation' can go to lead natural lives).
The british are a cowed race who stand still for every abuse the govt of the day can think of to hurl at them. Blatant abuse, not subtle or hidden. In your face abuse. Patent criminal extortion, on a massive scale. Countless examples of it.
But you keep whining about those who won't tolerate it if it makes you feel better. You keep telling yourself that everyone who is in prison is a rapist or granny-mugger or degenerate pilferer. Next week you can move on to Jackanory. |

Yeah, because every person in prison is in there because they're 'sticking it to the man'. They're in there because they decided working within the democratic system was a spineless thing to do. What a load of tripe! 99% of the people in there are in there because they were either greedy, violent or dishonest. The other 1%? Probably in for traffic offences.
The people you want every prison inmate to be is the Western version of Nelson Mandela, someone who's actually in prison for a cause they believe in, a political prisoner who's actually in there for unselfish reasons. And I doubt there's any political prisoners in a country where oppression is so frowned upon.
| Quote: | Self employment, all cash in hand and nothing to the taxman...until you get caught and, suprise, you're one of those criminals in gaol. |
Too bloody right! Democracy is all about putting in your fair share and getting things in return for it. Despite what you might think, I doubt the government somehow corruptly spend the billions upon billions you are talking about. What would they spend it on? Sure, a lot of it goes into projects I don't really have an interest in and if I had my way we wouldn't be a part of, like the Iraq war. But ultimately democracy is the same the world over, and if you don't have democracy, you've got communism. So either accept the system the way it is or go and live in Cuba!

What a realistic idea! Let's assume that somehow, every adult in the UK is convinced for the right reasons that they shouldn't have to pay any tax. Well, there's the government gone. You seem to have this vision of the government as an invisible entity, yet really it's just a load of people living in suburbea, no different to anyone else.
Then let's assume that such a plan was implemented. Well, it might actually work. For about a day. Then all hell would break loose, all civil servants are out of a job remember. No roads being fixed, no rubbish collection, nothing that is provided by the government and as a result the councils. So no services whatsoever. No medical or dental care, no schools, nothing. Within a year we'd have either evolved into some (significantly smaller) idyllic population who grow fruit and sell it for a chair (communism) or a complete mob rule society where the most violent get the prize joints. And based on the human condition, I'd bet my limbs in would be the latter.
