I've been riding a CG for quite a while now and though it is everything that they are supposed to be I feel like its a bit unrefined.

The YBR looks almost identical but with a few more modern features, has anyone had a good chance to test these two bikes?

I'm especially interested in how the YBR copes with steep hills and higher altitudes as the CG starts choking in some places (but never fails to get me there).

Also i have read that the new models are restricted down to 10bhp but older models were 12bhp, anyone know what year this started?

Cheers

ive driven a cg125 and didntlike the riding position so i bought a YBR125 as it was the right hight for me and comfotable, and the YBr to me feels alot more nippy and doesnt mind doing 50mph at 7000rpm.

I have driven mine round malvern (some big ass hills there as its one huge hill) and its doesnt strugle. As for the restriction ive been told its 12bhp and mines on a 56 plate bought in december.

get a yam SR125! heavier than the CG and a proper chuggy engine, and the most comfortable seat in the world. Will trundle along at 60/65 with not too much problem.

tbh I don't think you'll get much more from a YBR125. I ride around the pennines quite alot and being a bit of a fat ass the bike struggles to pull more than 40 up a steep hill, even when in the lowest suitable gear reving the tits off it... It will touch an indicated 70 coming down the other side though Cool

The bikes just don't have the power to race about, and it's not what they're designed to do. When you say refined what exactly do you mean??? It's a motorbike not a Rolls Royce! I thought that was part of their charm?

i can vouch for how hilly malvern is (i live there), and if a ybr125 can cope ok here then i'd say its powerfull enough for general pootling around Thumbs Up

I courier in london on a YBR125, Can be quite nippy (for a 125), and is faster than the CG, and fast enough to do most cars/bikes in the traffic light GP if you are willing to use it to its full potential....

Runs out of steam in the open... will cruise at 60, sometimes for no reason whatsoever will get to 70 indicated... Brakes are poor but that it to be expected on budget 125's... It filters very well, tuck one mirror in and harass bigger bikes all day.

Tank seems to fill up for about 5-7 quid and will go 150 miles + on that... If you must get another 125 it wouldent be a bad choice...

I've clocked up about 50 miles on an '06 cg125 and just over 2000 miles on an '06 ybr125. I prefer the yamaha for ruggedness and handling (although the factory tyres are a bit ropey) but the "sticky gears" problem is still a nuisance.
I didn't find any problems with the honda, but that's not to say there aren't any. The honda's more practical, easier to get parts for, has a better re-sale value etc. but I'd still go with the yamaha. However, if you plan to sell the bike on and they're both the same price, then common sense says to go for the honda.

I've been on a CG but found the styling not to my taste, looks too, I don't know, boring I suppose... Did the cbt on a SR125, good bike can't vouch for speed as it was the cbt, it makes a nice noise, kinda throaty chug chug but the seat was too low.

I have a CLR125, makes a nice noise, has a cool shiny exhaust set high up on the right and is described as an Urban Scrambler, what ever the hell that means... Laughing

I like it though, performance is probably much the same as a CG manages 60 on the flat, a dizzy 70 going down hill (with the wind beneath your wings, as it were...) Good upright sitting position and its quite rare, only seen one other. (I went to Bournemouth for it, saw it on here and had to have it Razz )

Only downside is as soon as you get a puff of wind in your face, you're doing 50, regardless...

Meh, I would just get a CG125 to be honest due to the fact everyone man and his dog knows what one is and you'll get a good price for it.

All the 4t 125's are so similar you might as just pick the one you fancy.

I just filled up yesterday after the bike hit 250miles on the counter, put 10litres to the drop in it for £8.40 Laughing supposedly another 2 litres still in the tank too... But I've never pushed it any further for fear of running out. Most of my miles are from my daily 30mile commute where I ride very conservatively in 30 zones all the way...

Heh I usually take it out and abuse it at the weekends... Can't be bothered to ride the YBR too hard, it's too much effort for not alot of gain! Also I want to sell it very soon, so I'm keen to keep it in good knick.

The YBR I was on seemed to have plenty of pull through all the gears up until about 65 and then it sort of died, as expected. Very smooth bike. Don't like the sitting position compared to the GS, it's very close to being like a cruiser.

A cruiser???? Are you like 8 feet tall and sit on the pillion? It's just a basic naked upright postion...

Overall it sounds like its just a little bit nicer than the CG, I'm still curious about the restriction.

"It can develop a maximum of 12 horsepower at 8,000 revolutions per minute, and maximum torque of 11.6 Nm at 6,500 rpm, but the new european version with catalysator (2005) can develop a maximum of 10,3 horsepower at 7,600 rpm, and maximum torque of 10 Nm. It has electric start and CDI ignition."

Thats what wikipedia has to say about it, i've heard other people mention the exhaust, has anyone tried a pre 05 model?

This is a bit off topic but I think I may have seen you in Worcester. I have seen someone riding a Red YBR and the guy nodded at me once. Mine is blue. Very Happy

Spent the last 2 days in Malvern at my mates house. Couldnt get home because of all the snow Wink.

Small world eh? Laughing

Yeah, I go through Powick quite a lot on my way to Malvern. My mate lives in Malvern and I usually ride up there then we ride together or something.

I will keep an eye out for you Thumbs Up.

Do you ever ride through the middle of Worcester? Because I saw the red YBR several times going towards the Cathedral past a motorbike shop called Skellerns and past the Tech College in the centre of town.

Yeah, the snow has been quite an annoyance but I still rode around in it Very Happy. Just have to basically not use the brakes. Of course how I found that out was rather amusing (sliding along my road nearly falling off).

Anyway, Im going riding around tomorrow around Worcester around 3pm so maybe I will see you Cool . All the snow is gone now Thumbs Up. I hope Shocked
