My mate brought a 99 Hornet 600 today and is having problems starting it.

The battery is showing full charge but when we hit the starter it was making the sound it makes when the battery is dead. We rigged up a booster to the battery and it started OK, and it'll bump start too.

After riding around 40 miles after bumping it it still wouldnt start off the starter.

Cheers for any help

Chris Thumbs Up

The battery is buggered, get a new one. I would also check the regulator to see if it charging properly.

sorry forgot to mention, the battery was showing a full charge of 12volts on the meter.

I was thinking maybe a reg/rec problem?

try looking at the connections to the battery too usually overlooked but a common problem

give them a clean up on the battery and the cables too

The battery may seem ok but when you push the starter button the voltage drops. You will find that if it does not start first time that the charge soon runs out.Change the battery.
I had to get a battery every six mounts or so on my 99 hornet.

Measuring 12v with no load on the battery is meaningless.

Get a bit of load on it (more than a bulb) and I bet you'll find it puts out nearly nothing.

New battery time, they wear out.
